5. Terms:
• Hemocytometry: It is a technique in which microscopic cells like
RBCs, WBCs and platelets can be count either manually or
automatically.
• Dilution: It is process by adding excess solvent like water or other in
solution to lower the concentration of solute.
• Dilution factor: It is a notation in which how much of the original
stock solution present in total solution.

Requirement: Blood lancet, RBC and WBC diluting solutions,
Neubauer Slide, Microscope, Cotton guage, RBC and WBC pipette.

12. Applications:
• Count RBCs and WBCs in blood samples.
• Find infections and healthy conditions in body.

13. Precautions
• Clean the prick area properly using cotton with spirit.
• Don’t overflow the chamber, cover with cover-slip.
• Avoid air-bubbling in pipette.
• Avoid coagulation of blood inside the pipette.
• Clean the pipette and Neubaurs slides after the practical with 0.1 N HCl
solution.
• Spirit is used for cleaning and antiseptic purposes.
• Never use lancet multiple times. Discard immediately after use with proper
capping.
• All waste materials like cotton plucks, blood sample in waste bins.
