GSM-RELAY PROGRAMMING
You can program the GSM-RELAY with SMS commands using your phone. It is safe to do so because in addition
to the fact that other people may not know the number of the SIM inserted in it, we also use a Password that
makes it impossible for anybody who doesn't know it to access the system by chance. Remember that
commands must be CAPITAL LETTERS. It is PWD not pwd, CAP not cap etc. Don't add spaces or any other
character.
Setting up GSM-RELAY controller module by cell phone:
The following commands is used in the GSM-RELAY
#PWD Password
#CAP Change password
#WHL White List (add or remove numbers)
#ACM Safety control mode or free control mode
#REPLY When send the SMS to control, if need to reply the SMS
#GOT Relay working output delay time
#MODE Relay mode
#CSQ Check Signal Quality
#STATUS Check status once you issue a command with an SMS, you will receive a confirmation SMS with
GSM Based Asset Management & Control System BTH 14-C

OK if everything is correct or Err if there is an Error.
GSM-RELAY SMS COMMAND LIST:
#PWD Password:
This command must always come first 6 digits as a password. The standard default one, when the device comes
from the factory, is 123456. We suggest that you change it, using the #CAP command.
#CAP Change Password:
Use this command to change the password with a new one that you will chose for your device ( don't forget it or
you will have to send the unit back to us to reset it, and this has a cost ) The #CAP command must be issued 2
times to be sure you don't digit a wrong one. OF course it must be preceded by the old password. For example,
to change the password 123456 into the new password 333444 you need to send the following SMS:
#PWD123456#CAP333444#CAP333444 Acknowledge SMS: PWD SETUP OK If you wrote correctly, or an Error
message if you made a mistake. If the old password is error, then conformation would be: Error Old Password.
If you input two different new password, then reply would be: Error New Password, Please Check the
input again.
#ACM Free control mode or safety control mode:
This command is used to select the safety control mode or free control mode
#PWD123456#ACM=ON or #PWD123456#ACM=OFF When at safety control mode, then only the numbers in
the WHL list can control the device Customized Text Command is only working at #ACM=ON mode When at
free control mode, then any number can control the device.
#REPLY SMS reply enable or disable for relay output control command:
This command is used to save the cost for SMS reply when no need the SMS reply back
#PWD123456#REPLY=ON or #PWD123456#REPLY=OFF.When #REPLY=OFF,then any relayoutput control
text command would no confirmed SMS reply from controller, including the OUT, RLY and the Customized Text
Command.
#WHL White List:
This is the command that you will use most. It is used to add or remove numbers that are enabled to control the
relay sets into the White List. You can add up to 200 numbers in the list. Every position must be indicated in the
command and we advise you to keep a list written somewhere to know which numbers are in and in which
position.
• To add a number with SMS, the syntax of the command is the following:
#PWD123456#WHL01=61143815 Acknowledge would be: WHL01 SET TO 61143815 OK Where 01 is the position
in the list and 61143815 is the number enabled. Please note that it is possible to program up to a maximum of 1 8
digits for a number. If it has more digits you should use the rightmost ones. For example, if your number is
33446665555 you should program 3446665555. If your number appears as +85261143815 you should not program
the country code (+852). If your number has only 17 digits or less, it is not a problem. The important thing is that
you don't exceed 1 8 digits.

• To add a new number, you also can use the fast teaching button:
(Only from WHL01 to WHL10) Press the button KEY1 for around 2 to 3 second and then the LED D1 would be lighting,
and then you can use the phone to call the device number and then device would reject the calling and the LED D1
would flash one or two times, then the number would be saved. If you need to continue to program, then just use
another phone to call the device. If you don’t need to program more, then just press the KEY1 button again to QUIT
the teaching process, then the LED D1 would be OFF. Then you can use the numbers just programmed into the device
to control the device.
(Fast Button program only support the program from WHL01 to WHL10, if it is full, then after you press the
teach button, the LED would flash sometimes, and Quit the process automatically).
• To check which the number in a place of the list is:
#PWD123456#WHL01?
Acknowledge: WHL01 IS 61143815 OK
• To erase a number:
#PWD123456#WHL01=0000000 (or you can write over it another number you wish to add) Acknowledge:
WHL01 SET TO 00000000
List All numbers in the List
#PWD123456#WHL=ALL? (PC)
Acknowledge:
WHL01 IS XXX
WHL03 IS XXX
WHL08 IS XXX ………
#QUERY White List:
If you are not sure a number in the position of the device, you can use the SMS
#PWD123456#QUERY=132324242. The device would answer the SMS with: QUERY RESULT: 132324242 AT
WHL121 Or QUERY RESULT: 132324242 NOT EXIT.
#GOT Relay working output delay time:
This command is useful in case you need to keep the Relay output working longer. The standard time is 0.3
seconds (300ms). You can change it with the GOT command.
• The syntax of the command is the following:
#PWD123456#GOT500 (PC&PHONE)(Only for NO.1 Relay)
Acknowledge: DELAY TIME SET TO 0500MS
With the above command the delay time has been set to 500ms (0,5 seconds).

#CSQ Check GSM signal quality:
(PC&PHONE) This command is useful to see the GSM network signal level, your GSM-RELAY is receiving. It
ranges from 0 to 32 (if it is 0 we doubt it will ever answer...). You should have a signal above 12 to be sure of being
able to control the relay sets in any condition. Better if above 16. You should add an external antenna if this is not
the case, or eventually even change operator with another that serves your area better.

3. Primases control
Asset control:
The circuit is designed in such a way that you can set/ control your appliance using GSM-RELAY module. That can
be done by configuring connected relay to the asset and a simple SMS command will turn off or/and on your
appliance. Hence you are in control of every appliance in the model, each control by a separate relay and each
relay can be operated bay separate command using SMS.
Room control:
The asset control circuit is also a room control circuit. As we are working on a model just to demonstrate the
capability on GSM-RELAY module therefore; each room contain a single appliance. Hence if you turn off or on any
device in the model, it will also demonstrate the room control scenario as well.
Primases control:
The circuit is also designed to demonstrate the primases control facility by shutting down and/ or power on all the
appliances and rooms in a same time using just one command.
As we know that the system can operate on both modes SMS and Calling.
When we are calling GSM-RELAY module, specifically relay no.01, this is the only relay which has the capability to
take command by using calling. The system will take a call and eventually it will reject the call, so no call fare will
be charged, but it will trigger the relay to operate either on or off. Other than this relay, all the relays will respond
on SMS.
Assembly design is as under:

Electrical Panel Design:
The Electrical panel is designed especially for the model as a prototype of the real application. The panel circuit
is also designed by the Team members (Mudassir & Aejaz). We both visit market to finalize the panel and its
components. Every component, by function will be labeled for installation, maintained, and identification point
of view. The list of components used in panel designing are as under:
1. Indicators for each room, all are different colors.
2. 4 Single-pol Circuit Breakers for each room.
3. 1 Double-pol Circuit Breaker for Main Supply.
4. Metallic Panel Box, Open Installation type.
5. Connected wires.
6. Space left for placing GSM-RELAY module and Wiring.

Traditional Electrical Panel Circuit Diagram:
The traditional electrical panel circuit is exactly the same as the simplified version we put in our model, which is
as under:
Electrical Panel Circuit Diagram after Installing GSM-RELAY Module:
The circuit will remain same at least most of it, the only difference you will observe is the link directly connected
to the load is now passing through GSM-RELAY module. The design contain AC and DC circuits. All DC circuits’
operational power will be converted from AC circuit and will be placed in the Electrical panel. The SIM card will
be installed in the GSM-RELAY module is only for demonstration purpose and it is not part of the Project. The
design is mentioned below:

Electronic Part:
There are several electronic equipment’s we are using in this project. The details are as under;
1. GSM-RELAY module, which plays most important part as the idea behind the project is full filled by this
unit.
2. DC supplies, for GSM-RELAY module and other loads we are using in this design.
3. DC loads (Emergency Light connectivity).
GSM-RELAY module:
This unit is consist of three parts for differently working units combined together to serve a purpose. The parts
are;
a. GSM Circuit.
b. MCU (Micro controller unit).
c. Relays circuit.
GSM Circuit:
The circuit consist of fully functional GSM SIM card operational circuit. It has SIM Jack from which it can take all
instructions, which it will forward to MCU and reply back.
MCU (Micro controller unit):
This part receive instructions from GSM Circuit and interprets, recognized fool proofing, check each part of the
instruction, for example password, which rely to operate and what mode of instruction would be addressed. After
decoding instruction received by GSM Circuit, it forward latching voltages to Relays Circuit.
Relays Circuit:
That is the area where all the action is happening. After decoding, MCU knows that the instruction is for which
Relay and operating mode.
GSM Part:
GSM part is most easily and in a same time most important part as well. We use commonly available GSM service
from local service provider to instruct a device. To do so, we put the SIM card in the module so that device can
take instructions.
Now the Big Question…….!!!!!!!:
What if the device gone rouge during operation……..?????
What will happen then………?????
Will the customer bare no electricity, while having electricity just because of device failure………?????
The backup Plan:
To answer the above question we have come up with an idea of using 102-3Phase unit as a 2 way selector. The
device is technically used for the 3-phase and a neutral phase changer, but to serve our purpose we have selected
this device to become a 2 way selector. The line diagram for the solution is as under;
GSM Based Asset Management & Control System BTH 14-C
28 | P a g e
GSM Based Asset Management & Control System BTH 14-C
29 | P a g e
At point “0”:
All the power from breakers diverted to common of 102-3Phase (AKA 2way switch). By doing that it become a
safe point for selecting in any direction and it also behaves like a barrier between direct load and via device.
At point “1”:
When the selector turned on “1”, the 2way switch divert all power towards device. Hence the device become
operational and all power flows through device. The model become fully controlled by GSM-RELAY module. This
includes all AC & DC devices.
At point “2”:
When the selector turned on “2”, the 2way switch divert all power towards the main supply to the model
bypassing the device. A return current will be redirected to the relays, but it is quit safe as at off position the relays
will not latched, so that the current will not flow.

  • 13. GSM Based Asset Management & Control System BTH 14-C 13 | P a g e GSM-RELAY PROGRAMMING You can program the GSM-RELAY with SMS commands using your phone. It is safe to do so because in addition to the fact that other people may not know the number of the SIM inserted in it, we also use a Password that makes it impossible for anybody who doesn't know it to access the system by chance. Remember that commands must be CAPITAL LETTERS. It is PWD not pwd, CAP not cap etc. Don't add spaces or any other character. Setting up GSM-RELAY controller module by cell phone: The following commands is used in the GSM-RELAY #PWD Password #CAP Change password #WHL White List (add or remove numbers) #ACM Safety control mode or free control mode #REPLY When send the SMS to control, if need to reply the SMS #GOT Relay working output delay time #MODE Relay mode #CSQ Check Signal Quality #STATUS Check status once you issue a command with an SMS, you will receive a confirmation SMS with
  • 14. GSM Based Asset Management & Control System BTH 14-C 14 | P a g e OK if everything is correct or Err if there is an Error. GSM-RELAY SMS COMMAND LIST: #PWD Password: This command must always come first 6 digits as a password. The standard default one, when the device comes from the factory, is 123456. We suggest that you change it, using the #CAP command. #CAP Change Password: Use this command to change the password with a new one that you will chose for your device ( don't forget it or you will have to send the unit back to us to reset it, and this has a cost ) The #CAP command must be issued 2 times to be sure you don't digit a wrong one. OF course it must be preceded by the old password. For example, to change the password 123456 into the new password 333444 you need to send the following SMS: #PWD123456#CAP333444#CAP333444 Acknowledge SMS: PWD SETUP OK If you wrote correctly, or an Error message if you made a mistake. If the old password is error, then conformation would be: Error Old Password. • 22. GSM Based Asset Management & Control System BTH 14-C 22 | P a g e The interior of the structure will contain the appliances. Which includes: - An AC Exhaust Fan (Simulating Bracket Fan). - An AC White Milky Circular Shaped Tube Light. - A DC Computer, demonstrating motor for water transferring. - A DC LED circuit, which will demonstrate the outside wall light. Please note that all the Appliances are in different rooms and GSM-RELAY module will simulate appliance control and Room Control system simultaneously. Assembling of hardware: When all the hardware come together it will become the controlled environment of the asset management system. This system has the capability to control almost all hardware used in home. The technique has a huge applications in industry as well. The GSM-RELAY module, the model and the electrical panel become the demonstrations tool for all controllable scenarios. Which are as under; 1. Asset control 2. Room control 3. Primases control Asset control: The circuit is designed in such a way that you can set/ control your appliance using GSM-RELAY module. That can be done by configuring connected relay to the asset and a simple SMS command will turn off or/and on your appliance. Hence you are in control of every appliance in the model, each control by a separate relay and each relay can be operated bay separate command using SMS. Room control: The asset control circuit is also a room control circuit. As we are working on a model just to demonstrate the capability on GSM-RELAY module therefore; each room contain a single appliance. Hence if you turn off or on any device in the model, it will also demonstrate the room control scenario as well. Primases control: The circuit is also designed to demonstrate the primases control facility by shutting down and/ or power on all the appliances and rooms in a same time using just one command. As we know that the system can operate on both modes SMS and Calling. When we are calling GSM-RELAY module, specifically relay no.01, this is the only relay which has the capability to take command by using calling. The system will take a call and eventually it will reject the call, so no call fare will be charged, but it will trigger the relay to operate either on or off. Other than this relay, all the relays will respond on SMS. Assembly design is as under:

  • 27. GSM Based Asset Management & Control System BTH 14-C 27 | P a g e Electronic Part: There are several electronic equipment’s we are using in this project. The details are as under; 1. GSM-RELAY module, which plays most important part as the idea behind the project is full filled by this unit. 2. DC supplies, for GSM-RELAY module and other loads we are using in this design. 3. DC loads (Emergency Light connectivity). GSM-RELAY module: This unit is consist of three parts for differently working units combined together to serve a purpose. The parts are; a. GSM Circuit. b. MCU (Micro controller unit). c. Relays circuit. GSM Circuit: The circuit consist of fully functional GSM SIM card operational circuit. It has SIM Jack from which it can take all instructions, which it will forward to MCU and reply back. MCU (Micro controller unit): This part receive instructions from GSM Circuit and interprets, recognized fool proofing, check each part of the instruction, for example password, which rely to operate and what mode of instruction would be addressed. After decoding instruction received by GSM Circuit, it forward latching voltages to Relays Circuit. Relays Circuit: That is the area where all the action is happening. After decoding, MCU knows that the instruction is for which Relay and operating mode. GSM Part: GSM part is most easily and in a same time most important part as well. We use commonly available GSM service from local service provider to instruct a device. To do so, we put the SIM card in the module so that device can take instructions. Now the Big Question…….!!!!!!!: What if the device gone rouge during operation……..????? What will happen then………????? Will the customer bare no electricity, while having electricity just because of device failure………????? The backup Plan: To answer the above question we have come up with an idea of using 102-3Phase unit as a 2 way selector. The device is technically used for the 3-phase and a neutral phase changer, but to serve our purpose we have selected this device to become a 2 way selector. The line diagram for the solution is as under;
  • 28. GSM Based Asset Management & Control System BTH 14-C 28 | P a g e
  • 29. GSM Based Asset Management & Control System BTH 14-C 29 | P a g e At point “0”: All the power from breakers diverted to common of 102-3Phase (AKA 2way switch). By doing that it become a safe point for selecting in any direction and it also behaves like a barrier between direct load and via device. At point “1”: When the selector turned on “1”, the 2way switch divert all power towards device. Hence the device become operational and all power flows through device. The model become fully controlled by GSM-RELAY module. This includes all AC & DC devices. At point “2”: When the selector turned on “2”, the 2way switch divert all power towards the main supply to the model bypassing the device. A return current will be redirected to the relays, but it is quit safe as at off position the relays will not latched, so that the current will not flow. Budgeting: S.
