This document provides learning objectives and information about analyzing meaning created by camerawork and mise-en-scene in film scenes. • A long shot from the front of the aisle shows Elizabeth entering the hall.
In the shot the subjects are positioned either side of the aisle and
Elizabeth at the end. Elizabeth is in the centre of the frame and this long
shot allows us to see her dress. The dress is a white embellished gown.
To the left of the frame we see her ladies in waiting who are also dressed
in white gowns, although not as decorative as Elizabeth’s. This shot
connotes that she is the bride in this scene, and that she is going to
marry England. The ladies in waiting are there as her bridesmaids, on
this her wedding day. The white dress symbolises her virginity and the
ladies in waiting dresses are not as decorative to connote that they
cannot outshine the bride on her wedding day.
