DATA MATRIX FOR THE WEEK
Indian equity markets commenced the first week of New Year with a bang, as the benchmark indices not
2nd Jan 2012 - 6th Jan 2012 only surged over two and half a percentage points but also completely recovered the ground lost in the
last week of 2011. The frontline indices got a positive start of the week and managed to gather some
impetus in final hours of the session to snap the first trading day of 2012 on an optimistic note with gains of
Weekly Markets under half a percent. But the New Year cheer re-invigorated bulls in the subsequent session as frontline
gauges took a quantum leap on the second trading session of 2012 by vehemently rallying close to three

percentage points to re-conquer the psychological 4,750 (Nifty) and 15,900 (Sensex) levels. However, what
Nifty 4,754 2.81% followed in three of the following sessions was consolidation. However, the psychological 4,780 (Nifty)
and 16,900 (Sensex) levels time and again proved as though nuts to crack for the frontline indices as they

back of strong new business and output growth. Reports also showed that the government took a bold step to

WEEK AHEAD
Next week the official third quarter result season will kick start with the numbers of IT bellwether Infosys on January 12 and will set the trend for
the third quarter numbers for the It industry. It is being said that top software exporters may report a rise in margins, aided by a weak rupee.
Also, market participants would be awaiting the release of IIP data for the month of November. As growth of eight core industries rebounded to
a robust 6.8 per cent in November, industrial growth is likely to be positive for the month after a contraction in October. Industrial growth was a
negative 5.1 per cent in October, when even revised core sector growth was just 0.3 per cent. From the global front traders will be eyeing, the US
Jobless Claims and Retail sales data on January 12, 2011 and finally the International trade data on January 13, 2011. Conclusively 4500-4860
could be the trading zone for the upcoming week though momentum still remains subdued. HAPPY TRADING...
