2. TEMPODROM (FOLDED PLATE
STRUCTURE)
 An Architectural Wonder
 The Tempodrom rises behind the
fragment of the old terminus and the
football field nearby like a fantastic
cathedral.
 Its 35-meter high roof
consists of both sharp edges,
pointing happily towards the sky,
and softly contoured planes.
 White and visionary, this building is reminiscent of
expressionist architecture which was on trend in
the beginning of the last century.

 The area of the Tempodrom reaches 12,500 m2. It
accommodates three performance spaces — namely two
circular arenas:-
 the Liquidrom, as well as
 a bar.

4. The Tempodrom - From a Usual Tent to a
Concrete One
*Established in 1980 as a circus tent
on Potsdamer Platz and after various
re-locations, rebuilt in 2001 on the
grounds of the former Anhalter
Bahnhof in a new form, today the
building offers a variety of use and
design possibilities.
*This building is a multipurpose event
venue in Berlin, Germany .
*Founded by Irene Moessinger, it
opened in 1980 next to the *Berlin Wall
on the west side of Potsdamer Platz,
housed in a large circus tent.
* After several changes of location it is
now housed in a permanent building in
the Kreuzberg neighborhood.

6. STEEL FRAME SKELETON
The steel structure is one of the main types of building structures.
Because of characteristic steel - high strength, lightweight,
excellent overall rigidity, and strong deformability. So it is
especially suitable for large-span, super-high and super-heavy
buildings. The steel structure is a steel beam, column, truss, and
other components made of section steel and steel plate, and
welds, bolts, or rivets connect each component or part.

7. From a Usual Tent to a Concrete One
CONCRETE OVER STEEL FRAME
High grade of concrete is used over the stainless
steel braced frame structure.
In 1980, the nurse Irene Moessinger
became a rich heiress: Irene’s father
left her an 800,000 mark inheritance.
The woman spent all the money on
fulfilling a lifelong dream. She
purchased a circus tent, set it on
Potsdamer Platz, and opened a venue
there. This was the first version of the
Tempodrom.

8. Salient features of Tempodrom structure
*The most striking feature
from the outside is the 37
m roofing of the Large
Arena which allows
daylight into the interior
through its glazed
opening at the top.
*Eco-sustainability was a prime requirement from the start.
Floors, walls, ceilings and the pavilion roof provide improved
thermal insulation.
*This ultimate wellness center has a round 13 m diameter
pool under a domed concrete shell, again with a central
glazed roof light.
