The form of Simple Present is used to talk
about external fixed arrangements for a
future event/ action:
• Tomorrow is Tuesday : a calendar
• We have class tomorrow at 15:30: timetable
• The plane starts at 5 p.m.: Fixed External

3. 2. Present Progressive
The form of the Present Progressive is used
to talk about the future that results from a
personal arrangement:
I am travelling tomorrow
We are having a party next week
Use the Present Progressive for the future
with verbs of movements:
I am coming next year
He is moving to the countryside next month

4. 3. Future Tense: will
Indicates an action or a condition that will
occur in the future: doubt/ Prediction or the
intention to do something
She will design our new Web page.
We will send the software this afternoon.

5. 4. Future Tense: Shall
Shall is used to talk about a future with the
meaning of a duty, promise, expectation,
instructions
He shall tell the truth.
He shall be here in an hour.
You shall uncover the TV before you start it

6. 5. To be going to + Verb
It is used to talk about a determination.
It is used to talk about a future based on a
hint.
He is going to stay late despite his dad
warning.
Look! The pen is rolling on the table; it is
going to fall down.
Your face looks pale. You are going to faint.

7. 6. Future Progressive Tense
Involves an action or condition that will
continue in the future
Requires the present participle plus the
helping verbs will be or shall be to form the
future progressive tense
We will be sending a rebate coupon.
We shall be requesting new software by next
week.
Tomorrow, at 11 I will be crossing the Atalntic

8. 7. Future Perfect Tense
Indicates an action or condition that will begin
and end before a specific future time
Requires the helping verb shall have or will
have before the past participle of a verb to
form the future perfect tense
I will have updated the software before next Friday.
By next summer, Jamie will have completed all of
her required computer courses.
Tomorrow by ten, I will have crossed the Atlantic

9. 8. Future Perfect Progressive
Describes an action that will continue to be in
progress at a specified time in the future
Requires the present participle plus the
helping verbs will (shall) have been to form
the future perfect progressive tense
By the end of next week, we will have been reviewing the
software for two months.
By 5 p.m., they will have been answering the help desk
questions for several hours.

Near Future (Formal)

To be about to+ verb/ to be on the verge of+ V-ing (Informal)
The film is about to start
