Over the Air
London’s Summer Tech Fest
Over the Air is a celebration of creativity and technology. A festival of all things
hackable. A place to learn and debate about new technologies & their
applications, new techniques & opportunities, and issues to be addressed -
together with other creative technologists.
Now in it’s 8th year running, this tech-agnostic event held in the heart of
Shoreditch attracts more than 500 developers, designers, & entrepreneurs.
Along side 2 days of community-run workshops to learn about new tech, tools,
platforms & techniques, Over the Air also features an overnight Hackathon
with camping on the grounds, and Lightning Talks on the Friday night.

CHALLENGES
“This is the 2nd year we’ve sponsored the event as we love meeting a strong group of
developers specifically focused on mobile, learning about their ideas and advising on different
ways of monetising their applications. The event allows us to showcase our innovations and
gain valuable feedback on how we can make our services better for them...in a world where
innovation is happening so quickly.” (PayPal, now a 5-time Sponsor)
B E C O M E A S P O N S O R
A great opportunity to gain kudos, gratitude and
great brand exposure at the best grassroots event
for the developer community in the UK.
Sponsorship possibilities include a cosy Lounge
area or Code Clinic, branded Challenges for the
Hackathon, Meals and Refreshments.

Come share what you’ve learned, what you love,
what you’re working on next – by way of hands-on
technical tutorials and demonstrations. Topics
cover an expanded definition of “mobile

from the web to mobile applications to connected
devices to Augmented & Virtual Reality.

"One of the most important things on show at OTA was not in a specific tool, hack, or presentation, it
was that when creative people are given toolboxes & told to have fun, (a) they will and (b) there’s every
chance that what comes out will actually be genuinely useful. Promoting that spirit of hacking and
improvisation in the community is the real success of OTA” (Ewan Spence, Forbes)

What are we hacking?
Mobile apps, mobile web, mobile devices,
prototyping platforms such as Arduino, mBed &
Raspberry Pi, wearable technology, robotics, AR
& VR …everything and anything, with a focus on
connected devices and “things.”

Over the Air 8 Years of Over the Air
We launched OTA to encourage creative collaboration and foster learning in the mobile
developer community. First held at Imperial College London, and then the fabulous Bletchley
Park, OTA is now at a unique new venue in Shoreditch that still keeps that grassroots,
community festival atmosphere for which we have become well loved.
We are proud to have attracted an amazing list of Keynote Speakers over the years - people
who share an inspirational message of how the world of tech is shifting, where it’s all going
and how developers & designers can make an impact. Not a sales pitch in sight.

people who are typically under-represented at tech events, and in keeping with that have
committed to both the Hack Day Code of Conduct and the Diversity Charter. All are welcome!

  • 3. "One of the most important things on show at OTA was not in a specific tool, hack, or presentation, it was that when creative people are given toolboxes & told to have fun, (a) they will and (b) there’s every chance that what comes out will actually be genuinely useful. Promoting that spirit of hacking and improvisation in the community is the real success of OTA” (Ewan Spence, Forbes) Participants collaborating in the Hacckathon Bean Bags and Keynotes in the Main Hall What are we hacking? Mobile apps, mobile web, mobile devices, prototyping platforms such as Arduino, mBed & Raspberry Pi, wearable technology, robotics, AR & VR …everything and anything, with a focus on connected devices and “things.” Celebrating Creativity Show & Tell of the Hackathon entries LEGO Mindstorms donated for workshops & awards Give-aways and Marketing Materials 3D Scanning & Printing shared with attendees Over the Air Friday, November 25th 9:00 - 10:00 Registration & Coffee 10:00 - 11:00 Welcome & Keynote 11:00 - 18:30 Workshops across 4 rooms 55 min each / Hacckathon launches 12:00 - 13:00 Lunch 18:30 - 23:00 Dinner & Drinks & Lightning Talks 23:00 .... • 4. Over the Air 8 Years of Over the Air We launched OTA to encourage creative collaboration and foster learning in the mobile developer community. First held at Imperial College London, and then the fabulous Bletchley Park, OTA is now at a unique new venue in Shoreditch that still keeps that grassroots, community festival atmosphere for which we have become well loved. We are proud to have attracted an amazing list of Keynote Speakers over the years - people who share an inspirational message of how the world of tech is shifting, where it’s all going and how developers & designers can make an impact. Not a sales pitch in sight. Hack Day Code of Conduct & Diversity Charter H O W A R D B A K E R A R I E L W A L D M A N D R S U E B L A C K Professor of Computer Science, Sue spoke about her campaign to save Bletchley Park at OTA11. (Photo credit Caz Mockett) Founder of the Science Hack Day community and the Space Hack platform, Ariel spoke about hacking for space at OTA12. ‘Father’ of the BBC micro:bit, Howard spoke about it’s journey from the BBC Micro to it’s first public launch at OTA15. T I M B E R N E R S - L E E Inventor of the World Wide Web, Sir Tim spoke at our second ever event at Imperial College (OTA10) about Open Data, SPARQL and the Open Web. We consistently achieve female representation amongst both participants and speakers of at least 40%, and are not resting on our laurels. We actively reach out and invite a wide range of people who are typically under-represented at tech events, and in keeping with that have committed to both the Hack Day Code of Conduct and the Diversity Charter. All are welcome!
