1. ION I. C. BRĂTIANUIon I. C. Brătianu ,also known as Ionel Brătianu (20
August 1864 – 24 November 1927), was a Romanian
politician, leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL),
Prime Minister of Romania for five terms, and Foreign
Minister on several occasions. On the 23rd of June of the
1915, I. C. Brătianu repelled count Ottokar Czernin’s
proposition regarding Romania joining the war on
Central Parties’side in exchange of Bucovina restitution
and some other concessions offered by the Hungarian
government. Also, Brătianu, as the chief of the Romanian
delegation at the Peace Conference pleaded warmly for
the unification of the country and for legitimate
international recognition of its political and territorial
state.
On June 21, 1927, Brătianu returned with his fifth and
final cabinet. He died in Bucharest, from complications of
laryngitis, and was replaced as Prime Minister by his
brother Vintilă Brătianu until the calling of elections.
