The document summarizes test results showing the effectiveness of Microban antimicrobial technology in preventing the growth of bacteria and fungi on carpet over time. Tests using AATCC Test Method 174 II found that on unprotected carpet samples, bacteria and fungal growth proliferated from 2 hours to 24 hours, while samples protected with Microban saw little to no growth. Micrographs show bacteria and fungi unable to grow on the Microban protected surface. Microban uses zinc technology that disrupts bacterial functions to inhibit both bacteria and fungi growth. This technology is permanently locked into carpet fibers to provide 24/7 protection against stains and odors.

Proven Protection
The photographs (below) illustrate the long lasting protection of Microban® zinc antimicrobial technology on carpet. The data
and images were generated using AATCC Test Method 174 II, an industry standard test method used to quantitatively demonstrate
antimicrobial activity on textiles. The standard test method protocol specifies that a protected and unprotected sample both be
inocculated with bacteria and that after a 24 hour incubation period, the remaining organisms are to then be recovered and
counted.
To better demonstrate the effect of Microban® zinc technology on carpet over time, bacteria counts in these tests were recovered
and counted at multiple time periods over the standard AATCC Test Method 174 II time period of 24 hours.
