Textiles and Bacteria
The majority of textile materials naturally attract dust and debris during their use. Bedding, carpets, upholstered furniture and clothing
can become contaminated with bacteria and fungi due to the naturally occurring warm temperatures and humid conditions found
indoors. This type of environment is perfect for the growth of bacteria which in turn can lead to unpleasant odours.
A major source of allergens within household bedding are dust mites which feed on mould
and flourish on human dead skin cells. Around 80% of the dust we find in our homes is made
up of these skin cells.
Bed sheets, pillows and mattresses are the most common place for dust mites to multiply
as they take up moisture from body contact making this type of environment even more
hospitable for them.
Bioshield fibres powered by Ag Nano Technology is designed to eliminate the growth of
harmful organisms such as mould, fungi, MRSA and E.Coli and as a result will promote a
safer healthcare environment.
Silver Technology
Silver has been used for centuries to combat infection and spoilage owing to its naturally occurring sterilising properties.
These unique properties have been used to create Bioshield powered by Ag Nano Technology - an established Nano based
antimicrobial additive.
When integrated into textiles it provides unrivalled protection against micro-organisms and is an effective defence against the
bacteria responsible for many unpleasant odours, and it can even significantly reduce the growth of bacteria and mould.
Bioshield fibres powered by Ag Nano Technology has now become recognised as one of the most durable antimicrobial
textiles around.
The Benefits
Once the Ag Nano Technology additive has been incorporated into Bioshield fibres it is
essentially there to stay. It won’t lose efficacy due to leaching or migration and since it is
evenly dispersed throughout the material, the antimicrobial performance will continue
to provide outstanding results even after repeated washes. This has been proven through
extensive independent testing and results showed that Bioshield fibres far exceeded the
performance of any leading competitors product.
l Combats allergens and dust mites which can cause sneezing, itching, watery eyes,
nasal stuffiness, respiratory problems, eczema and asthma
l Protection of fabrics from growth of bacteria, fungi and mould
l Eliminates odours and keeps fabrics smelling fresher
l Lasts for the lifetime of the product even after repeated washes

Manufacturing Process of Bioshield fibres
Bioshield fibres are made during the extrusion process, Ag Nano Technology anti-bacterial additive is incorporated into the
yarn while it is being manufactured. Other leading anti-bacterial textile fabrics are only coated and have been proven
ineffective after washing. They also have to be washed at high temperatures and use harsh chemicals whereas Bioshield
fibres is unaffected by cleaning chemicals such as chlorine bleach, alcohol, phenol
disinfectants and quaternary ammonium compounds. Even harsh industrial products
like MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) do not diminish the antimicrobial properties of products
containing Ag Nano Technology, and Bioshield fibres can be washed at low temperatures
yet still remain effective at combating bacteria.
Independent Testing
In a recent comparable test with the leading silver-based antimicrobial textile brands,
Bioshield fibres yarn exhibited notably superior wash resistance.
The study, conducted by an independent laboratory testing house, Bureau Veritas, took samples of Bioshield fibres fabrics
which were subjected to repeated wash cycles. Samples were removed at 25, 50, 75 and 100 wash intervals and antimicrobial
performance was independently assessed. The results showed that Bioshield fibres fabric remained 99.99% effective even
after 100 washes.
