2. 12 and 12A: The certificate “12” is used only for DVD’s, games and videos whereas the classification “12A” is only used as a classification for film. For a film to be classified at “12A” it is important that it doesn’t have a very dark and unsettling tone or theme which could in turn disturb the audience watching, because the audience watching would be a fairly young age which would mean that they are more vulnerable and influenced by things which they in films. A film rated at “12” can contain moderate language and use terms such as “bitch” and “twat” also discriminatory language can be used but must not be promoted or shown in a good light in any way. Also, moderate violence is acceptable to a certain level but should not dwelled another thing which should not be dwelled upon is the use of moderate psychological threat, dangerous behaviour for example suicide and self-harming. Weapons which are easily accessible should never be glamorised to the audience. 15: Films which are classified at “15” are deemed to be films which are suitable for the likes of people 15 and above but are not suitable for those younger tan 15. The issues which are tackled and found in a “15” are often much more dramatic and stronger than things issues you would find maybe in a “12”. In a “15” the use of strong violence is allowed as is the use of strong language such as f***, things such as portrayals of sexual activity, strong verbal references to sex, sexual nudity, drug taking, discriminatory languages can also be used in a “15”. However, scenes of sexual nature have to be brief as does sexual violence.
3. 18: In films rated as “18” there is a lot more freedom and a higher tolerance level because the audience is 18 and over. An “18” is allowed to contain very strong violence, frequent use of strong language, strong portrayals of sexual activity, scenes of sexual violence, strong horror, strong blood and gore, discriminatory language and can also contain depict ions of real sex and drug use can be shown but not promoted. In conclusion, considering all of the film rating which we could use we have decided to rate our film at a “15”. By rating our film at a “15” we would leave the door open for a large amount of viewers to see this film, 15+ is the age of people who most frequently visit cinemas this being teenagers, they are the most important target audience. If we were to rate our film at an “18” for example this would restrict our audience to just 18s and above which would reduce the amount of views. Also in a “15” the only difference to an “18” is that the content is less intense story for example the use of language and violence. We mainly chose a “15” because our film does contain some strong language and has some violence however the violence is not as strong as say maybe in an “18”.
4. Misery: 18 Misery contained strong language and very graphic nature. It focusees a lot on gore and blood, there were also extended moments of violence. e.g. Panic room: 15 Panic room is rated “15” because it contains strong language, scenes of a sexual nature, and strong violence. Psycho 15 Psycho was rated at a “15” because it contains mild nudity and also strong violence, a women is shown being stabbed repeatedly by a kitchen knife. Also, some scenes are mentally disturbing. In misery we see huge levels of violence and we also see paul sheldon legs being purposely broken by a building mallett. We also see then use of dangerous weapons and see the sheriff being shot dead.
5. The talented Mr.Ripley 15 This film contains nudity and also strong language, the use of the F-word.The violence in the film is also quite strong you are shown a man beaten to death. e.g. Halloween 18 Halloween was rated “18” because of strong violence which happens frequently. sexual content, nudity and strong language. In the talented Mr.Ripley we see mild violence which is shown by a fist fight. Although, it is made obvious that one of the actors has been murdered in the film, we don’t see him being murdered instead we see the other actor murdering him without seeing any blood or gore.
