2. GENRE
After publishing our initial 3 minute storyline on our blog,
we questioned 25 volunteers asking them what genre of
film they believed our movie was. Our film was always
meant to be a crime-comedy, and within our pre-
production questionnaire, 16 people presumed this,
correctly. However, 4 people did recognise comedic
elements, but not crime ones, whilst 4 managed to
understand the crime element but not the comedic one.
One person even believed that following the reading of
the synopsis that the film was a drama! As a result of this,
we aimed to emphasise both the comedic and criminal
overtones of the film, so that the genre was not
ambiguous. As a result in our post-production
questionnaire, we found that 23 of those surveyed
understood the genre of the film clearly.

3. CONTENT
Within our initial questionnaire, we received some
feedback on our initial film idea, (notable examples are
listed beneath the pie chart), so within our finished piece,
we attempted to rectify this. In regards to feedback
labelling the coarse language within the film as
“gratuitous”, we provided context to all of our swearing,
for example when robbing the shop, Jacob uses the
adjective “fucking”, thus he seems more authoritative and
quintessentially criminal. We also took on board feedback
claiming that the robber’s choice of attire was “too
clichéd”, yet maintained his criminal vibe; the character of
Jacob wears black clothing, in order to represent his
felonious nature, yet the attire remained inconspicuous
and ‘normal’. Finally, we removed any notion of a
getaway car or other such ideas, deciding that simplicity
was best.

“I like the overall plot, yet I feel the
swearing to be too gratuitous.”
“The robber wearing all black is too
clichéd.”
“Although I like the film idea, I think
that’ll probably be too hard to film, just
keep it simple.”
4. SETTING
When asked what settings people imagined being
included in this film, a large number of people claimed
that a lair or heist planning room be part of the film. We
believed that this could be done, and thus we
implemented this within our film. By doing so, we
enabled more character development to occur, ultimately
benefitting the film exponentially. Within the movie, the
heist room acts as a way of introducing the characters of
Mitchell and Louie and portraying them as successful by
allowing them a setting to brag about their crimes, in
what appears to be a natural state of catharsis for the
two. The room is instrumental within the film, being the
main setting for the majority of the short 3 minute
episode, and thus the audience feedback is vastly
appreciated.
