3. Process
I used the text tool to produce and position the title, slogan and blurb. I also used the free transform
tool to make the image fit the size required for the DVD cover/poster and make the age rating bigger.
This is so it makes it seem more like a poster and DVD cover because most modern posters and covers
have a age rating on the front of it so the audience know what type film it is and how old they have to
be to either watch or buy it. The processes that I used was that I wanted the poster & cover to look like
a old fashion picture taken back in the war time.
To do the above action I added the text was done clicking the “T” icon, then draw a box for how much
text I want in it on the them, this is because I didn’t want to have to much text on the front cover/ the
backcover, this is because I didn’t want to make the audience bored. This was so I could get a idea if
where I wanted to put the text about the film and the back cover. To put the pictures and the age rating
on the experiments, use ctrl+v to paste the pictures. Then I would ctrl+t to use free transform to make
the picture fits the page, then I would do the same thing and then make the age rating smaller so it not
to big for the poster and covers. This is because it make the poster more realistic and more professional,
it would also make it so the age rating wasn’t to big in the bottom corner so the audience could see the
background more.
As well as varying the image, and the size of the text and rating, I also experiments with the font and the
different colours of the text to see which colour contrast worked best(black writing on lighter image,
white writing on a darker themed image). I also tried multiple different fonts observed in the images on
the previous slides to see which font stood out, yet still fit in with the genre.
4. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
– I will use the darker colours scheme with the black and grey, being the
main feature colours of the image to give an old fashion feel to the posters
and covers. Also I will use the layout of the 1st experiment for the poster
and DVD cover because its simple but effective as it doesn’t over
complicated things, so it suitable to show to advertise the product. I
would also use the font size and font of experiment 2 because the size of
the font is big enough to make so people can read it but not to big so it
doesn’t cover up the whole poster, the font style also fits the theme of the
genre, making it suitable choice. I would choose the white font, seen in
experiment 1 and 3 as it stands out the most on the dark background. I
would also use a similar location of a house, this is because it gives a
horror aspect to the DVD covers and posters, therefore people would
know the genre of the film straight away. Also a house in a forest is seen in
other horror films and can be used to good effects.
