Stem Cell Bank
AssureImmune - Cord Blood Stem Cell Banking
Collect, test, process and cryopreserve a newborn’s cord blood for
personalized immunological and regenerative therapies.
Research & Development with leading scientists to proliferate
stem cells increase treatment options.
Our scientific expertise and state-of-the art automated processing
and storage systems assure that stem cells will be potent and
viable.
Stem Cell Bank
What is Umbilical Cord Blood and Umbilical Cord Stem Cells?
The cord blood is removed from the umbilical cord and the placenta soon after a baby is born;
Taken from umbilical vein after cord is cut and clamped;
Placed in bags, processed and frozen for later use;
Stem cells from umbilical cord blood are hematopoetic stem cells;
Cord blood stem cells have been proven in treatment to help children replace damaged blood cells
with healthy ones and strengthen their immune systems;
Cord Blood Stem Cells are different from both the embryonic stem cells in a fertilized egg or the
stem cells obtained from a child or an adult;
Cord blood stem cells can grow into blood and immune system cells, as well as other types of
cells;
Umbilical Cord Blood contains different types of Stem Cells:
Hematopoietic Stem Cells (HSCs);
Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs);
Multipotent Non-Hematopoietic Stem Cells.
Advances in Cord Blood Stem Cell Therapy
There are almost 80 diseases that can be treated with CBSC. Some of them are:
Malignancies: Leukemia, Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Hodgkin’s Disease,
Retinoblastoma, Neuroblastoma, Solid Tumors;
Blood Disorders: Sickle Cell Anemia, Thalassemia, Aplastic Anemia,
Thrombocytopenia, Fanconi Anemia;
Immunodeficiencies: SCID,Ataxia Telangiectasia, Wiskott Aldrich
Metabolic Disorders: Leukodystrophy, Gaucher Disease, Krabbe Disease,
Hunter Syndrome, Hurler Syndrome, Niemann-Pick;
Other Inherited Diseases: Osteopetrosis, Osteogenesis Imperfecta,
Lesch-Nyhan Syndrome, Tay-Sachs.
Emerging therapies: clinical trials in progress for:
Cerebral Palsy
Traumatic Brain Injury
Diabetes Type 1

Importance of Storing the cells when you are younger
The younger the better:
Potency decreases over time;
Stem cell genetic damage accumulates;
Risk of disease increases;
Banking puts cell in hibernation – aging stops.
Immediate availability:
Cells pre tested and counted – ready for use;
Emergency treatment - heart attack, stroke, accident.
Waiting in line for cells at public banks is your only alternative.
Benefits of Using Your Baby’s Cord Blood
Your CB From Cell Bank
1 Availability <10% for minorities
2 Requires use of immunosuppressants –
sometimes for life
3 Attacks your immune system and can be life
threatening
Stem Cell Bank
Time to Transplant 7-15 Days 20 - 90 Days
Match Availability 100% < 50%1
Match Wait Time None 4-18 months
Immunosuppressants Not needed $4,000/Yr 2
Rejection Risk None Yes
Graft -vs- Host Disease None Yes (3-45%)
Understanding the Options
Today, expectant parents may choose from among the following options:
1. Donate to a public cord blood bank.
2. Store it in a private family cord blood bank.
3. Donate it for research studies.
4. Do nothing. You can choose to do nothing with the umbilical cord blood,
and it will be discarded after birth.
Stem Cell Bank
Stem Cell Bank
There are two types of cord blood banks:
Public Banks:
Store donated cord blood for potential use by transplant patients.
Donor remains anonymous.
There is no guarantee that your CB be used by the Family that donated the sample if
needed.
Family Banks/ Private Banks:
Store cord blood exclusively for use by the baby’s family.
The parents have custody of the cord blood until the child is an adult.
The CB can be used by the donor baby or a relative.
What are the costs of banking cord blood?
Public banks do not charge parents for donating cord blood. If you need a stem cell
transplant and do not have your own stems cells stored, you will be placed on a “Donor
Waiting List”. If a match is found, you may pay up to 30,000 to just obtain the stem cell
sample. This does not include Stem Cell treatment governed by the transplant facility.
Family banks currently charge the family between $1300 and $2200 to process and store
cord blood privately. Family banks also charge an annual storage fee.
Public Banking vs. Private Banking
Stem Cell Bank
AssureImmune Advantages
The higher the number of cells recovered, the higher the chances of successful therapies.
This can be accomplished with:
Automated Processing (AXPTM from GE Healthcare);
BioArchive® System (automated storage system, bar coded);
Less than 24 hours between collection and storage which increases the number of cells
recovered – less waiting time;
Our drivers collect samples within a few hours after delivery.
ONLY Family Bank (adults and babies). Families can share.
Store plasma for future cell expansion.
Several transplants in U.S. Medical Centers.
Worldwide presence. Established company.
All-inclusive pricing, payment plans.

AssureImmune: Collection and Preservation
Collect 75-120 ml of cord blood after the child is born.
Ship at room temperature.
Sterile processing using automated systems.
Test according to AABB and FDA guidelines:
STDs, HIV, Hepatitis,West Nile, Chagas, CMV, bacteria;
Cell counting;
Viability.
Preserve, control cool (-56 C) and freeze (-196 C) <48 hours.

Process of Collection and Cryopreservation:

AXP Processing System
AXP Stem Cell Separation
AXP Stem Cell Separation Complete
Samples bar coded, sealed inside Teflon
and sealed in bar coded steel cassettes
for storage
AssureImmune has an utomateted
procesing system that recovers the
maximun number of quality stem cells.
This computer controlled separation
system recovers twice as many stem
cells than traditional banking methods
because minimize the human error
(most of the stem cells bank do this
process manually, recovers 56% os stem
cells).
HowAXP Processing System works?
Computer controlled separation system with optical sensors which detect
if the sample is free of viruses and bacteria;
Module fits into standard centrifuge;
Microprocessor senses rotational speed and controls flow of blood cells
into different compartments of plastic processing kit;
Recovers 94% of total mononucleated cells and stem cells.
Stem Cell Bank
Cryopreservation
Our Equipment
Thermogenesis –BioArchive®
Other Banks
Conventional Equipment- Chest Freezers
Stores 3,623 bar coded samples individually;
Controlled cooling module uses liquid nitrogen vapor
to slowly cool cells to -50 C;
Samples then moved into liquid nitrogen at -196 C for
long term storage;
Stored Samples never experience transient warning
events responsible for cell death;
94% recovery of viable cells upon thawing.
Samples stacked in racks;
Cooled in liquid nitrogen vapor freezer;
Transferred to quarantine freezer;
Transferred again to chest freezer in racks;
56% recovery of viable cells on thawing – at best;
Viability declines as samples handled. Each time rack
is removed - cells die.
