Google Developer Group Cloud Los Angeles International Women's Day 2022 Mega pitches her startup Dew Health, a health tech platform for patients with skin of color.
Virtual care is needed to address inequities in dermatological care for people of color. Only 8% of over 50 million annual dermatology visits are from people of color due to limited access to care, inequitable treatment, and high costs. The proposed solution is an end-to-end virtual care platform specialized for people of color skin, provided by board-certified dermatologists. It aims to fill an unmet need and large market potential, with a plan for soft launch in 2022 and expansion of services thereafter.

2. Problem
Out of over 50 million dermatology visits
every year, only 8% are with patients of
color.
3. Why?
01 02 03
Limited Access
Inequitable Care High Costs
Common skin ailments go
unidentified and untreated
in people of color due to
myopic training practices
and inherent biases.
People of color are less likely to
be referred to a dermatologist by
their PCP, are more likely to be
seen in an ER for benign skin
issues.
Dermatologists are less likely
to accept Medicare/Medicaid
and insurance companies often
require a referral to be seen,
effectively doubling the cost of
treatment.
9. Differentiators
+ Comprehensive and personalized
care from the top skin of color
dermatologists
+ Filing provisional patent for AI
skin issues identifier tool
+ Access to community and
support from non-physician skin
experts on skin of color
10. Competition
+ There is no telehealth platform for people
of color in the market.
+ Patients currently find dermatologists who
specialize in color by searching Google,
Zocdoc, Healthgrades, Reddit, and Social
Media.
+ There are a limited number of
existing in-person practices/clinics
that support patients of color (Mt.
Sinai, Cedar Sinai).
