Human diversity
First month’s activities have been completed to our school! Firstly,
we informed students about the project`s topic and then, we made a
brainstorming about the name of disability. We understood that students
confuse the terms disability and differentiation. Then, we made two
activities to understand the meaning of differences and similarities.
These are the two activities:
1. The children form a circle with their chairs . We ask them to
change position for example those who wear pants or
glasses, etc. After that we remove a chair and put the
student at the center. He tries to lift others and sit himself.
2. The children hold a star. In the centre they write their
name. Each end of the star denotes a category, which is the
same for the whole class, for example favorite food. Every
student sees the stars of his classmates and sees which are
their differences and which their similarities.
After that, we saw two videos on youtube. The first one was "The
difference glasses" and the second one was about the elephant named
Elmer...We discussed the meaning of these videos and the students made
a team drawing with Elmer the elephant...It was fun!!!!
At the end, we made two activities about acceptance from the
others:
1. Every student drew his hand. At the centre they wrote their
name. Their classmates should write at every finger
something positive about hand’s owner. Then, everyone read
the positive characteristics that have been written for
him/her.
2. Every student presented some things about himself. All
students had the same categories to describe about them,
for example interests.
