SOCIETY
• During the Modern Age, society was divided into three groups.
- Nobility
- Clergy
- Commoners
THE SPANISH MONARCHY
• The Spanish Monarchy during the modern age was absolute power.
THE CATHOLIC KINGS
• The Modern Age began with the reing of the Catholic Kings: Isabel I of
Castilla and Fernando II of Aragón.
HABSBURG SPAIN
• In the 16th and 17th centuries, Spain was ruled by the Habsburg dynasty.
• Carlos I of Spain and V of Germany.
• Felipe II
CARLOS I OF SPAIN
• Carlos (I) dominated Europe. He won a lot of wars.
• During that time, Spain also conquered and colonised America.
• Carlos (I) dies in Yuste.
THE BOURBON DYNASTY
• 1700, The first Bourbon King was Felipe V. After, was Fernando VI and
Carlos III.
THE ART AND CULTURE
• The main artistic styles of the Modern Age were Renaissance, Baroque and
Neoclassical styles.
The Renaissance style.
• Typical in the 15th and 16th century.
• Some of the most famous Renaissance artista are Leonardo da Vinci,
Michelangelo and Raphael.
The Baroque style
• This style was typical in the 17th century.
• Some of the most famous Baroque artists are Bernini, Rembrant, Rubens
and Caravaggio.
The Neoclassical style.
• This style was typical of the second half of the 18th century.
• Some of the most famous artists are Giovani Battista and Antonio Canova.
The Golden AGE.
• The time between the middle of the 16th century and the end of the 17th
century is called the Golden Age of Spanish art and literature.
• The Spanish art: Murillo and Velázquez.
• The Spanish literatura: Quevedo, Góngora, Cervantes and Lope de Vega.

• Napoleon Bonaparte led a military coup and took control of France.

• 2nd May 1808, Madrid. Very important batle.
SPANISH CONSTITUTION
• Spain´s first constitution was signed in Cadiz.
• The Constitution of 1812 was inspired by the values of the French
Revolution.
• It established the right and the responsibilities of citizens in Spain and in
Spain colonies.
SPAIN MONARCHS
• Carlos IV was King of Spain from 1788-1808.
• Fernando VII was King of Spain from 1814-1833.
• María Cristina was regency of Spain from 1833-1843.
• Isabel II was Queen of Spain from 1843- 1868.
SOCIECITY
• During the 19th century, Spain is divided into:
• Moderates, who wanted the monarch to have more power.
• Progressives, who wanted the constitution to have more powe.
ISABEL II (1843-1868)
• ISABEL II WAS THE DAUGHTER OF FERNANDO VII.
• Isabel II signed the Constitution of 1845. (MODERATES).
• During the Isabel´s reign, the Spanish government was controlled by two
political groups:
• Moderates: Wanted the monarch to have more power.
• Progressives: Wanted the constitution to have more power.

AMADEO I
• There were many political and social conflicts, and finally Isabel II lost
power.
• She leaves to France.
• Amadeo was King of Spain from 1870 to 1873.

  • 3. SOCIETY • During the Modern Age, society was divided into three groups. - Nobility - Clergy - Commoners
  • 4. THE SPANISH MONARCHY • The Spanish Monarchy during the modern age was absolute power.
  • 5. THE CATHOLIC KINGS • The Modern Age began with the reing of the Catholic Kings: Isabel I of Castilla and Fernando II of Aragón.
  • 6. HABSBURG SPAIN • In the 16th and 17th centuries, Spain was ruled by the Habsburg dynasty. • Carlos I of Spain and V of Germany. • Felipe II
  • 7. CARLOS I OF SPAIN • Carlos (I) dominated Europe. He won a lot of wars. • During that time, Spain also conquered and colonised America. • Carlos (I) dies in Yuste.
  • 8. THE BOURBON DYNASTY • 1700, The first Bourbon King was Felipe V. After, was Fernando VI and Carlos III.
  • 9. THE ART AND CULTURE • The main artistic styles of the Modern Age were Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical styles.
  • 10. The Renaissance style. • Typical in the 15th and 16th century. • Some of the most famous Renaissance artista are Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael.
  • 11. The Baroque style • This style was typical in the 17th century. • Some of the most famous Baroque artists are Bernini, Rembrant, Rubens and Caravaggio.
  • 12. The Neoclassical style. • This style was typical of the second half of the 18th century. • Some of the most famous artists are Giovani Battista and Antonio Canova.
  • 13. The Golden AGE. • The time between the middle of the 16th century and the end of the 17th century is called the Golden Age of Spanish art and literature. • The Spanish art: Murillo and Velázquez. • The Spanish literatura: Quevedo, Góngora, Cervantes and Lope de Vega.

  • 21. SPANISH CONSTITUTION • Spain´s first constitution was signed in Cadiz. • The Constitution of 1812 was inspired by the values of the French Revolution. • It established the right and the responsibilities of citizens in Spain and in Spain colonies.

  • 24. ISABEL II (1843-1868) • ISABEL II WAS THE DAUGHTER OF FERNANDO VII. • Isabel II signed the Constitution of 1845. (MODERATES). • During the Isabel´s reign, the Spanish government was controlled by two political groups: • Moderates: Wanted the monarch to have more power. • Progressives: Wanted the constitution to have more power.
  • 26. AMADEO I • There were many political and social conflicts, and finally Isabel II lost power. • She leaves to France. • Amadeo was King of Spain from 1870 to 1873.
