VERTEBRATES
 Vertebrates animals have skeleton
 There are 5 groups of vertebrates
 MAMMALS
 BIRDS
 FISH
 REPTILES
 AMPHIBIAN
MAMMALS
 Mammals have HAIR in the body
 Mammals breath by LUNGS
 Mammals are VIVIPAROUS
 Mammals have HEAD, TRUNK and EXTREMITIES
 The extremities can be:
 LEGS – horse, cat, elephant, giraffe
 WINGS – bat
 FINS – dolphin
 They can move in the LAND, AIR, WATER
BIRDS
 Birds have FEATHERS in the body
 Birds breath by LUNGS
 Birds are OVIPAROUS
 Birds have 2 LEGS and 2 WINGS
 They can move in the AIR
 Examples: canary, ostrich, eagle, parrot
FISH
 Fish have SCALES in the body
 Fish breath by GILLS
 Fish are OVIPAROUS
 Fish have FINS
 Fish move in the water
 Examples: shark, sardine, salmon
REPTILES
 Reptiles have SCALES in the body
 Reptiles breath by LUNGS
 Reptiles are OVIPAROUS
 Reptiles have 4 LEGS
 Reptiles move in the LAND
 Examples: snake, crocodile, turtle
AMPHIBIAN
 Amphibian have NUDE SKIN
 Amphibian breath by LUNGS
 Amphibian are OVIPAROUS
 Amphibian have 4 LEGS
 Amphibian move in the WATER and in the LAND
 Examples: frog, toad, salamander
QUESTIONS
 Which group of vertebrates have feathers in
the body?
 Which group is the octopus in?
 Which group is the snake in?
 Which group is the starfish in?
 Which group is the sheep in?
 Which group is the frog in?
 Which groups of vertebrates have scales in
the body?
 Which group of vertebrate breath by gills?
ACTIVITIES
Classify these animals in VERTEBRATES OR
INVERTEBRATES:
LION – SEAURCHIN – OCTOPUS – SARDINE – SNAKE – BEE - CRAB
INVERTEBRATES VERTEBRATES
ACTIVITIES
Classify these animals in the correct group:
PARROT – SHARK – FROG – SNAKE – GIRAFFE – LION –
CROCODILE – SARDINE – EAGLE - SALAMANDER
Mammals Birds Fish Reptiles amphibians
ACTIVITIES
Classify these characteristics in the correct group:
FEATHERS – GILLS – SCALES – HAIR – LUNGS – VIVIPAROUS –
OVIPAROUS – NUDE SKIN -
Mammals Birds Fish Reptiles amphibians
JOURNAL
 Choose one animal and write about it:
 In which group is it
 If it is viviparous or oviparous
 How does it breath
 How is its body
EXAMPLE: Shark
It is in the group of fish
It is oviparous
It breaths by gills
It has scales in the body
