2. INTERODUCTION
In general, Concrete is a heavy , rough and artificial
building material made from a mixture of broken stone
or gravel, sand, cement and water then can be spread or
poured.
Technically , concrete is a mixer of cementing material,
coarse aggregate, fine aggregate and water.
If cement is used as cementing material in the mix , it is
called PLAIN CEMENT.
If steel rods are embedded in the plain cement concrete,
called R. C. C. [ reinforced cement concrete.
If lime is used as cementing material in the mix , known
as lime concrete.
3. CLASSIFICATION OF CONCRETE
REGULAR CONCRETE: Standard and regular concrete comes in a
variety of premixed packages that vary in their water absorption, and
setting qualities depending upon the specific aggregate used.
PREVIOUS CONCRETE: It allows a small amount of air or waste
water to pass through the material. This type of concrete have a
reduced strength compare to regular concrete.
STAMPED CONCRETE: It is treated while still wet to mimic the
outward the appearance of other materials such as brick ,
cobblestone, wood or other materials. It is also known as
architectural concrete for its decorative nature. It is produced by
adding a primary color as well as accent color to the concrete
mixture. Then wet concrete is poured and stamped with a Ploys
ethane Stamp.
SHORTCRETE CONCRETE: It is also known as Gummite shortcrete,
generally where form work is unnecessary such as when building
against rock surfaces or vertical soil.
4. USES OF CONCRETE
It has long been used for the foundations of all
kind of structures and for filling in the spend rills
of arches or hearting and back of walls.
It is used for walls in the form of slabs fitted into
timber quartering and in hollow blocks something
like those of terracotta, filled in with interior
material.
It can easily be made in small in slabs well fitted
for paving and by the use of wooden moulds can
readily be cast in the form of window sills, lintels,
droppings of all kinds of steps etc.
Drainpipes and segments of sewer are also
sometimes made of concrete.
5. USES OF CONCTRETE
Shortcrete concrete is also used for rock support especially
while tunneling. In some cases additives such as fiber
reinforcement and accelerators may be added to the mix.
Previous cement is ideal for decorative purpose as it is easy to
clean and offer superior durability when compared to material
such as brick or slate.
Standard concrete and regular concrete as such as is not
recommended by heavy load bearing structures but it is
commonly used in residential buildings for inning curbs and for
strengthen side walls and driveways.
Concrete has become an indispensable part of our every day
life. It is used to make our construction project the best and
most efficient that it can be. It can be placed or molded into
virtually any shape and reproduce any surface texture.
