This document discusses three potential documentary ideas and analyzes each using a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) framework. The first idea focuses on challenges between older and younger generations with technology. Feedback influenced the choice of the first idea to take forward. To develop this idea further, the document discusses interviewing technology specialists and doing more research into challenges with the topic. Overcoming stereotypes in the technology industry is highlighted as a strength for moving the first idea into development.
2. Strengths
The strengths of my idea one is this documentary is only
one of its kind and exciting but would be a interesting
short programme because it involves both the older and
younger generations facing the future of technology
It challenges stereotypes when thinking of females
taking over the traditional role of male in the ICT
industry this is strengths because it hasn’t been
investigated before and I think it would in intriguing to
see the results and what people think of it.
Viewers will get the chance to learn about the
technology they don’t know about and so learn that not
in all aspects are the adults better
Weaknesses
It would be hard to film them at the same time because
people schedules are different.
Cutaways might get repetitive and this could get boring
after a while
I might not be able to have a conclusion with the
documentary because I will be only basing it on two
people profiles.
Opportunities
Challenges stereotypes , this hasn’t been done before for
this type of technology documentary
I could interview workers and specialist in Curry’s and Pc
world also I could try and contact the gadget show and
get their opinions this would make it more interesting
for my audience because they would what to know what
they think about the development of technology and if
they think that females are taking over the ICT Industry.
Threat
Some young people might not wanted to be filmed so it
might be hard to film them to get their opinions on
technology.
It might be boring for people that are not interested in
technology.
I might not get all the people that I want to interview so
then I am going to have to alternative that are
Cinemas may not allow me to show my documentary for
the films and for me to do this I might have to pay for it.
If something went wrong with the framing or lighting I
would have to get the people to re- do it and they might
not have the time to do this.
Idea one
3. Strengths
The strengths of my idea two is that this
documentary is only one of its kind and
exciting but would be an interesting
short programme because it hasn’t
been done before, I think it would be
good because it would be about
cultural awareness and the media.
Fits into today society, lots of people
will watch it because thousands of
people go to carnival on a yearly basis.
Appeals to my target audience because
some of them are affected by the
negative violence that is shown across
the media.
Weaknesses
It would be hard to film them at the same time because
people schedules are different.
Carnival only happens once a year so it would hard to film
the masqueraders and carnival in action.
It would be hard to film in Carnival house because it is used
regularly for events so I might not get to film there
Opportunities
I could interview with the head of
carnival because I am in contact with
her
I could also interview Boris Johnson
because he was in contact with my mas
band for 2011 and I might be able to
get in contact with him.
I might be able to change the view of
carnival in the media eye because it is
view negatively.
Threat
I might not get all the people that I want to interview so
then I am going to have to alternative that are still
interesting enough for my audience
Cinemas may not allow me to show my documentary for the
films and for me to do this I might have to pay for it.
It might be boring for people that are not interested in
carnival
If something when wrong with the framing or lighting I
would have to get the people to re- do it and they might not
have the time to do this
Idea two
4. Strengths
The strengths of my idea three is that this documentary is
unique and interesting. The fact that t is a short
programme of because this means that people would not
get bored easily because it short.
This focuses on mainly parents, adults and teachers, this is
something different to the other two ideas
Give my audience a chance to learn about the different
schools and help them make a decision when it comes to
their own children
Weaknesses
It would be hard to film them at the same time because
people schedules are different.
Cutaways might get repetitive and this could get boring
after a while
Distribution might have to be different because of the
target audience
This idea is very broad and might not be able to summed
up in a 5 minute documentary
It may not be interesting for all my viewers
Opportunities
To investigate the truth about comprehensive schools and
if it is better than state schools and in which aspects is it
I could interview Sadiq Khan to get his views on the
matters
I could show the positive side to comprehensive schools
and do a kind of for and against debate on the matter
Threat
Hard to interview expert opinions because I would have to
try and fit around people timing to try are get it filmed.
If something when wrong with the framing or lighting I
would have to get the people to re- do it and they might
not have the time to do this.
Might not have enough information at get a clear
understanding of the comprehensive schools in the %
minute documentary
Idea three
5. I would choose this idea to take into development because it is the most interesting one
to make and my audience feedback had also influenced this choice because they thought
this one was the most interesting and engaging. I will follow this because the people that
were watching my pitch are in the age range of my target audience for my documentary.
This idea is most practical because it wouldn’t be that hard to get my hands on technology
that would be relevant for this documentary for example iPad, blackberry etc, it is most
imaginative because I haven’t seen a documentary that faces the challenge of the people
when using technology. Saying that I saw a documentary today about ‘Is technology
taking over our lives’ this shows that technology is topical and will engage viewers.
I would adapt my idea by interviewing specialist at Curry’s and PC world, this was
developed and brought to my attention by my audience feedback, for me to now develop
this idea I would need to do more primary and secondary research into technology and
see what other challenge I might fall when I research this idea.
My Swot has also influenced my choice because I realised I can challenge how stereotypes
can be changed in real life and that it’s not always men that do better at jobs in the ICT
and Media industry
Idea 1 – Techno challenge between the generations
