The document discusses the student's media product which is aimed at 15-20 year olds. It uses young characters of both genders to attract a wide audience. The opening scene introduces tension through sound and camera movements to hint at what the film is about. The student learned about using editing software and working collaboratively on a team project, and feels their skills with the software improved from the preliminary task to the final product.
2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? In the opening, tension gets created through the sound used and the camera movements. It introduces the film and gives clues to what the film ahead is about. This is what I aimed to achieve which you will see in the conclusion to my graphs. When researching into other film openings, they don’t always give clues away about what the film is going to be unlike what happens in our opening as it involves the main character visiting his fathers grave which suggests something happened. This then gives a hint to the audience to what the film could involve.
3. How does your media product represent particular social groups? My media product particularly represents 15-50 year olds because of the characters ages and who the video is aimed at as it is aimed at 15-20 year olds. It is aimed at this target audience because of the research I did in my questionnaires. On the other hand, I have used a stereotypical ‘chavs’, which may offend those of that particular nature as those who wear tracksuits aren’t all out to kill others, however I feel that this has brought awareness to the audience about the public and what they are able to do.
4. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? In my opinion a suitable institution for distributing my media would be SKA productions because the research I did into gangster British films tended to use this one and as that is the same genre as ours that is why I would use this institution. Also Working title would be another choice as they only distribute British films.
5. Who would be the audience for your media product? My audience for my media product is 15-20 year olds. The reasoning behind this is because that is the age of the majority of the public that took part in answering my questionnaire so I had feedback from them in what they would like to see in an opening film piece. This age group could easily interact with the on-screen characters. Also the action genre we chose as a group can attract males whereas the couple indicates a love story so it can also be seen as being good by females, this can bring in an even wider audience to our final media product.
6. How did you attract/address your audience? I used young characters in order to address the appropriate audience. I used males and a female to bring a wider audience in so that it wasn’t just one gender sided. Also I feel that because I had a old man being shot, this could also attract older generations as an audience.
7. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I have learnt about the ways in which different editing programmes are used as this was my main role producing the video. I have also learnt that working together in a team is good when putting together work, however can be difficult when evenly distributing the amount of work. As different jobs require different amounts of work.
8. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? The preliminary task wasn’t as sophisticated as the final product. I feel that different camera angles would have been appropriate for the close-ups and that movement shouldn’t have been made as we didn’t have a tracking device to do this smoothly. However we did also move with the camera around the gravestone in our final piece which in my opinion didn’t look great yet I felt it was appropriate to add interest. I have also learnt how to properly use the editing software to its full potential as that was my main role in the making of the two products.
