3. Error
An error is a term used to describe any issue that arises
unexpectedly that cause a computer to not function properly.
Computers can encounter either software errors or hardware errors.
4. Hardware errors
are any defects with hardware inside
the computer or connected to the
computer. Although some hardware issues
can be fixed with such things as firmware
updates, typically any hardware errors
caused by defects are resolved by replacing
the defective hardware.
5. Common Hardware Errors
• Blank monitors
• Hard drive is dead
• Error when booting
• Shutdown problems
• Freezing computer
• The mouse or keyboard has stopped working
• The sound isn't working
• Computer doesn't power up
8. Software Errors
are the most common types of errors
on a computer and are typically fixed with
software updates or patches that are
designed to fix errors in the code.
9. Example of Software Errors
• Access denied -.
• Device not ready -.
• File not found
• HTTP 404
• IO Error
• Low disk space
• Out of memory
• Runtime Error
11. Device not ready - This is an error that is both hardware and
software. This occurs when software tries to access hardware
that is non-existent or not ready.
12. File not found - This error is triggered when
accessed/requested files are either corrupted, non-existent,
mistyped, etc
13. HTTP 404 - This is a networking error that is seen
when a non-existent address is requested
14. IO Error - Read and write errors belong to this
general error category
15. Low disk space - When storage units are
almost full, this error will be called.
16. Out of memory - This error appears when the memory is full, almost full, or when
more is needed.
17. Runtime Error - These are errors that happen
during the time a program is running/executing
18. Fatal Errors
Blue Screen of Death - Windows operating systems display a blue
screen containing and error message when the operating system
crashes. This fatal system error can be triggered by faulty hardware,
driver issues, power-supply issues, kernel bugs, etc. Each trigger/cause
for the error is given a hexadecimal code as listed below.
