Kuching is the capital city of the state of Sarawak, Malaysia. It has a population of over 325,000 people and its economy was historically based around trading but is now more diverse. The city contains various residential, commercial, and public areas. While Kuching lacks some modern infrastructure compared to larger cities, it provides most basic amenities and services to residents through facilities like hospitals, markets, parks, religious sites, and educational institutions. The document proposes guidelines to improve security, sustainability, and transportation in the city to create a better future.

5. Past(Medieval City)
- The old city wall still stands circling the city, while trying with all of its
might to encapsulate Rothenberg’s Medieval magic.
- The city gates, colourful half-timber homes, cobblestone streets, and
narrow passageways will make you feel like you left the real World and
stepped onto a movie set.
- We love touring the ruins of the Imperial Castle from 1142, visiting the
Imperial City Museum, exploring the famous Medieval CriminalMuseum and
walking on top of the old city wall.
- Throw in an old Blacksmith shop, a lively market square,
plus great mom-n-pop pubs, and you’ll feel like you have travelled hundreds
of years into the past in no time.
The quaint German village of Rothenburg seems
frozen in time, Medieval times that is.

10. Town Planning Principles:Satellite Towns
A satellite town or satellite city is a concept in urban planning that refers
essentially to smaller metropolitan areas which are located somewhat near to,
but are mostly independent of larger metropolitan areas.
predate the metropolis' suburban expansion.
are at least partially independent from that metropolis economically and socially.
are physically separated from the metropolis by rural territory or by a major
geographic barrier such as a large river; satellite cities should have their own
independent urbanized area, or equivalent.
have their own bedroom communities.
have a traditional downtown surrounded by traditional "inner city"
neighborhoods.
may or may not be counted as part of the large metropolis' Combined Statistical
Area.
10
11. Town Planning Principle:Satellite Towns
Satellite cities differ from suburbs in that they have distinct employment bases,
commuter sheds, and cultural offerings from the central metropolis, as well as an
independent municipal government.
Satellite cities differ from edge cities, which are suburbs with large employment bases
and cultural offerings, in that satellite cities must have a true historic downtown, a
distinct independent municipal government, existed as a city prior to becoming
interconnected with the larger metropolitan core, and are surrounded by both their own
family of bedroom communities and a belt of rural land between themselves and the
central city.
In some cases large metropolitan areas have multiple centres of close to equal
importance. These multi-polar cities are often referred to as twin cities. Multi-polar cities
differ from satellite cities in two key ways:
-satellites are clearly much less important than the larger centre around which
they are located, while the various nodes of multi-polar cities are close to each
other in importance.
-satellites are separated from the larger centre by a substantial belt of rural
territory, while twin cities may be fully integrated in physical form.
Conceptually, satellite cities are miniature metro areas on the fringe of larger ones.
Satellite cities are sometimes listed as part of the larger metro area, and sometimes
listed as totally independent. Such as Petaling Jaya(Satellite of Kuala Lumpur) and Bayan
Lepas(Satellite of George Town) 11
12. Better FutureTown Guidelines

• Sustainable energy such as
solar energy, wind energy or
even geothermal energy.
• Underground tunnel from

incoming traffic which
occur everyday

Kuching Central
-Kuching Central is the main hub connecting to a series of sub-hubs in the
suburbs. It is still new due to its opening on 2012.

• Kuching only has a few amenities and one of them are the “Pullman

• The infrastructure of Kuching are mostly international and coastal
shipping, and the water supply.
• Kuching Division has the widest and most extensive road networks in
Sarawak. Kuching Division is also a home to world-class convention
centre, named Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK). 29
30. Conclusion
• The population and industrial product in Kuching has drastically
increase. Public building, parks and even the market place are also
lacking. The hygiene of the shopping mall and market place are
getting worst by the minute. Our transportation hub has also
increased and the roads are getting congested too. Our education has
also dropped, people now speak broken English. In my opinion, we
should act to help out our own state so that we can improve our way
of living and to make it back to how it used to be.
30
31. Proposal For a Better Future City
• The department of health should check regularly and close that
specific building if their hygiene level has reach the limit.
• There should be more cleaners to keep the hygiene.
• People should use more public transport so that no traffic jam will
occur.
• There should be more public spaces so that children or the elderly
can sit and relax.
• The lecturers or teachers should actually teach students to speak
proper English because English is a international language.
• We should be more civilized and moral towards the people around us
no matter where we are. 31
