6. Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse
Practitioner (AGACNP)
Mount Carmel College of Nursing’s Adult Gerontology Acute
Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) Program is designed for
registered nurses who are ready to pursue graduate
education that will lead to an acute care focused, advanced
practice nursing role. The Adult Gerontology Acute Care
Nurse Practitioner provides healthcare services to adult
patients with complex acute, critical and chronic health
conditions in high acuity settings that require intensive
monitoring and therapeutic intervention. These advanced
professionals are typically employed in hospital settings,
including intensive care, sub-acute care and emergency care
but may also be employed in ambulatory, outpatient and
rehabilitative settings to provide population-based care
across the healthcare continuum for the purpose of restoring
individuals to their maximal health potential, following an
acute care episode. The program is offered in a hybrid model,
with both online and face-to-face coursework.
7. AGACNP Program
Upon completion of the Adult Gerontology Acute Care
Nurse Practitioner track, graduates will have the
knowledge and skills to:
• Assume advanced nursing roles in clinical practice
• Deliver competent healthcare to diverse adult and
senior populations
• Use epidemiological, social and environmental data
to draw inferences to effectively assist patients in
achieving and/or maintaining optimum health or to
stabilize chronic health conditions
• Facilitate and demonstrate the use of evidence-based
practice
• Design health promotion and disease prevention
clinical programs for adult and senior patients
8. AGACNP Program Graduates:
• Evaluate nursing practice and healthcare to
produce quality outcomes of evidence-based adult
and gerontology care services
• Demonstrate leadership in clinical practice
• Use ethical decision making in the delivery of adult
and gerontology care services for populations
• Collaborate with intra- and interdisciplinary
professionals to achieve quality outcomes in
advanced nursing practice

• Full-time: Completion in two years over five
semesters
• Part-time: Completion in three years over
seven semesters
• $474/credit hour for the 2015-2016 academic
year
• Admits only in the Fall Semester (begins in
August). Application period is September 1 to

10. Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
Mount Carmel College of Nursing’s Family Nurse Practitioner
(FNP) track is designed for registered nurses who are ready to
pursue graduate education that will lead to a primary care
focused, advanced practice nursing role. The Family Nurse
Practitioner provides comprehensive primary healthcare to
individuals from infancy to adulthood. FNPs are prepared to
provide care to individuals with acute illnesses such as
bronchitis or minor infections and chronic illnesses such as
diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity. Preventative
health services, patient education, disease management and
other health initiatives are provided to heal the body, mind
and spirit within the context of family and community. The
program is offered in a hybrid format with online and face-to-
face coursework.
11. FNP Program
Upon completion of the Family Nurse Practitioner track,
graduates will have the knowledge and skills to:
• Assume advanced nursing roles in clinical practice
• Deliver competent healthcare to diverse populations
• Use epidemiological, social and environmental data
to draw inferences to effectively assist patients in
achieving and/or maintaining optimum health or to
stabilize chronic health conditions
• Facilitate and demonstrate the use of evidence-based
practice
• Design health promotion and disease prevention
clinical programs for individuals and families in
primary care settings

14. Nursing Administration
Mount Carmel College of Nursing’s Master of Science Program
in Nursing Administration is designed for career-minded,
baccalaureate-prepared registered nurses who are ready to
assume even greater responsibility and reap the benefits of
expanded career opportunities. This program prepares the
professional nurse to advance their careers by assuming
managerial and administrative roles. This advanced
professional will apply knowledge and skills to provide vision
and leadership within an ethical framework in healthcare
environments. This program is offered in a hybrid model with
both online and face-to-face coursework. An administrative
internship will conclude the program.
15. Nursing Administration Program
Upon completion of the Nursing Administration track, graduates will
have the knowledge and skills to:
• Assume advanced roles in nursing administration
• Lead the development of competent healthcare to diverse
populations
• Use epidemiological, social and environmental data to draw
inferences for the development of healthcare services
• Facilitate the use of evidence-based practice in nursing services
• Facilitate the development and implementation of programs on
health promotion or disease prevention
• Evaluate nursing delivery systems to assure quality outcomes

17. Online Nursing Education Program
Mount Carmel College of Nursing’s Nursing Education
track, offered online, prepares the professional nurse to
enter the academic classroom and institutional staff
development department as faculty to educate the next
generation of nurses or to take on staff development
responsibilities in a healthcare setting. This advanced
professional will apply relevant research in nursing
education and understand the ethical and legal issues
associated with the role of an educator in nursing. The
program will conclude with a practicum learning
experience.

21. Admissions Criteria
• Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited
program; accreditation by either the National League for
Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the
Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Master's and Doctoral Degrees also considered for the NP
program
• Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0
scale in the baccalaureate nursing program
• Undergraduate statistics and research courses with a
letter grade of "C" or better in both. A grade of "C-" will
not be accepted.
• Two years of ICU clinical experience within the last 5 years
recommended for AGACNP track
• One year of clinical experience recommended for FNP
track
• Interview (for NP tracks only)

• One to two page typed statement of purpose written by the
applicant that outlines applicant's goals and objectives for
pursuit of graduate studies in the specialty track, single-
spaced, one inch margin, 12 pt. font
• Current, unrestricted Ohio RN license or eligibility for Ohio
Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
• Two (2) letters of reference (from individuals such as: work
supervisor, professional colleagues, and former faculty
members)
• Official TOEFL scores for students for whom English is not the
native language; minimum required TOEFL score of 550 (paper
based), 213 (computer based) or 79-80 (Internet based); TOEFL
scores are valid two years from the test date.
• Official transcripts from all previous colleges/universities
