During the production of making the news bulletin there were many strengths and
weaknesses I found along the way. My strengths would include, researching information
about news bulletins and newspapers, e.g. how they are laid out/what camera shots need
to be included; preparing props being on time/schedule and coming up with the ideas, as
well as getting on with the project efficiently.
If I were to do this again I would take more time on writing the story when creating my
newspaper report, remove the 3 pigs story from the BBC news creation and try harder to
make it run more smoothly.
Originally the idea was to do the 3 pigs or goldilocks and the 3 bears, however that idea was
taken, so we decided to do little red riding hood. The story was based upon Red Riding Hood
and her ‘partner’ the axe man made a scheme to murder her grandmother and frame her
pet dog, which was claimed to be a wolf.
The audience were expecting a news bulletin, which is almost exactly what they got,
however I created mine into a whole BBC news reports. Within the program there were
many characters in order to create it: There were 5 public people expressing their opinion
towards the crime committed; a news reporter, a weather lady, a neighbour telling his side
of the story, camera crew and a news anchor. We see in this program many stories, one of
which is my main news bulletin about Little Red Riding Hood; another is about the press
getting too involved with crimes after a breakout occurred when the 3 pigs we arrested and
the weather to keep it more realistic.
During the process of filming there were many camera angles
and shots used. Longshots were perfect for when the
reporter was telling the audience about the crime as well as
using panning left following the reporter while walking and
talking. Zooming out was also used effectively because it
gave small snippets of information before revealing the
whole picture to the audience. Medium close ups were
generally used for when the public and neighbour was
expressing their opinions to the event. This was effective
because we only saw the waist up; this kept the main reason
for the shot undistracted. I was involved with the camera
more this time compared to when I last filmed when I wasn’t on camera being the news
reporter.
The finished news report is good, but yet again isn’t perfect because of the fact that it
doesn’t run as smoothly as I would have hoped, every so often the sound would either cut
out or seem like there were two recordings placed over the top of each other. Also the 3

pig’s section drags on for a bit and doesn’t necessary fit in with the whole BBC news story.
However I am still pleased with my overall outcome, because I have successfully created an
effective news report making the main small project into something bigger e.g. part of BBC
news; as well as being able to record over the voicing to make it sound better and make the
person say what I wanted them to say e.g. Sophie Raworth (news anchor). I was also able to
use a variety of programs to produce this project, proving effective and fairly professional.
There were only two people in my group myself and Lauren Harrison. Our idea was formed
together as one thought of the fairy-tale to use
the other the main twist to the fairy-tale (what
went wrong). We had seen the ‘Cannes Lion
Award-Winning Three Little Pigs advert’ to give
a little inspiration, and help us come up with the
ideas and have an idea of what our teacher was
looking for. I started by creating a synopsis,
which then turned into the script, people
involved and equipment list. We then started
filming with the props and editing them into
adobe premiere as well as using the footage to
create the location pictures. The target audience we were aiming for were people who
generally watch the news and enjoy learning/ hearing about problems which have occurred
in the world every day. The main props used would include; Glasses and hats. The glasses
made the reporter look more sophisticated and professional, whereas the hats just gave a
different personality to the public making them seem like they were from different
backgrounds.
To conclude in my opinion my news report was almost to the best of my ability to the time I
was given to complete this, I felt more comfortable working with my partner and was able
to input ideas easily without having to this twice. However it was hard having only two in
the group, because if one of them was ill/ away the other person had to fill in and do all the
work for that day. I feel like I was very organised and ready for each new stage that was
thrown at me.
