2. PLANNING
• Our planning increased between our preliminary task and the final film. I found that in the
preliminary we really just got up and went to film with little planning at all. We had a quick
brainstorm on where to film it but after that it was a pretty basic script and camera angles
list.
• We planned meticulously for the final film. We scouted a number of locations for
possibilities and wrote up to 6 script drafts to make sure the film would all come together
and we knew what to shoot on the day. We also used storyboards to give ourselves a
visual representative of the scene and it really helped the group understand together how
the opening was going to pan out. We started a whatsapp chat between the 3 of our
members so that we had an easy way to arrange shooting/planning days.
3. IMPROVEMENT OF THE FOOTAGE
• The quality of shots increased a lot due to the change in shooting style. We used a
handheld camera in the preliminary and it resulted in very shaky shots that gave off a very
unprofessional feeling. In the final film we used a tripod that helped a huge deal to
improving the footage that we captured.
• We also took several takes of almost every shot which allowed us to use the best of many
when it came to putting it all together.
• We found from our practice filming day a number of problems. Using this day to practice
was incredibly useful as it outlined a lot of problems that we would have faced if we hadn’t
spent the time to do it, like the need to use a windbreak on the microphone.
4. IMPROVEMENT IN EDITING
• The jump from Imovie to final cut was a huge step towards a better way to edit the film
together.
• Final cut pro has a very impressive set of options when it comes to filters and colour
options. This was very helpful in getting the right mood and feeling for our film.
• The ability in the title animations and styles was very helpful as you really could do almost
anything with the titles on the software.
• We also used music to add to our scene. When the sniper first shoots the music becomes
loud and fast and really adds suspense and tension to the short film.
