Jann Mardenborough's Better Half in Racing and Life
Question 1
1.
2. Throughout our film we used a varied amount
of camera shots and angles this helped us
and the viewers gain a different insight to
the characters included in the teaser trailer.
We stuck to the conventions of a
crime/thriller by basing the whole trailer on
a montage which is many short clips all put
together in an order which doesn’t give
away the storyline you see a similar thing in
the oceans 11 teaser trailer which is based
around a heist group and shows a montage
based around signs that refer to the genre
of the film
3. Our mise en scene for the teaser trailer was
also based around the genre and the
conventions so obviously a heist group you
would expect masks dark clothing and
hidden characters which we tried to
replicate in the film we didn’t really
challenge the mise en scene as we wanted
to be very specific with the things we
included within the film. In some aspects
you could say we did challenge the mise
on scene by not including some form of
weapon but it would of made our teaser
trailer more tacky and unrealistic.

5. As our film was an action/crime we chose
to have high levels of lighting within
each scene so it enabled us to change
the filters when it came to editing so we
were able to make certain things stand
out to give a certain feeling/image to
the audience at a certain point. An
example of this would be at the start of
teaser where the characters are
planning the heist around the table the
filters are changed to make the table
stand out rather than the characters
that are in the scene. A similar thing is
included in other high budget
6. Several action/crime films include voice
over's throughout the teaser trailer to
give more depth into the storyline or
just a slight insight to what the film
could be about, we decided to include
this so the viewers feel apart of the film
as if they are taking part of the heist
themselves and the editing and the
sound included helps to do this. The
editing is fast paced due to the whole
trailer being based around a montage
there is also sound effects included to
give more depth to a certain scene
which works along side of the

Oceans 11 is a film that is about a heist group
this falls under the genre of action/thriller for
our campaign we looked mainly at oceans 11
and films with a similar storyline to ours and we
looked at the campaigns used. We added
similar features but personalised them so we
didn’t challenge the conventions of our genre,
we did this mainly as the crime that is included
is a serious matter and we believed that if we
had challenged the conventions that the
crime aspect wouldn’t be taken as seriously
especially as our target audience was aimed
around 14+

These images show the similarities
between both our poster and the
oceans 11 one. You can clearly see the
similarity of the effects used on both of
them and a similar font that we had
used so it stood out.
