The document provides an analysis of shots, camera movements, editing, music and pacing used in a teaser trailer for a film called "Escape". It describes various shots including mid shots, long shots and close ups used to introduce characters and set scenes. It also discusses camera pans, zooms and angles used to follow characters and build tension. The music is described as eerie and intensifying throughout the trailer to match the increasing suspense, though one section could have been a better fit. Overall the analysis evaluates techniques used to keep audiences engaged without revealing the full story.

Preliminary Teaser Evaluation
1. Pre Liminary Trailer task Evaluation I Chose the title ‘Escape’ as the character in the teaser trailer is trying to escape from the clutches of the unknown to the audience. As the trailer begins to get more intense at 25 seconds, and the pace starts to quicken you can see lots of shots of the character running and looking as though she is trying to escape from something, therefore the title ‘Escape’ seems very fitting, which I then placed at the end so that the audience are kept in suspense right until the very end to the films name, this way it is one of the last things the audience sees so is more likely to remember . I Chose to have a black background with white outlined writing as these two colours work well together with the boldness of the white standing out., this theme is continued through out with the ‘coming soon’ clip and the opening title that introduces the film.
2. Camera shots, composition and framing. I have used a range of camera shots through out my teaser trailer including: mid shots, long shots and close ups being the most popular. As you can see the opening shot is an establishing long shot which sets the scene as being a school, you have got the name and indication of the school on the sign which is positioned slightly over to the right while on the left hand side you can see the background of the school. Then mid shots have been used as the character is introduced and the scene of the class room is set. The character is positioned in the middle of the frame due to her being the centre of attention and wanting the audience to have their main focus on her while subconsciously taking in the surroundings. This then continues with a concession of shots set in the class room that are all mainly mid shot and continues with her until she leaves. As the character leaves the classroom the screen dips to white to show the ending of that section in time and the beginning of another. This then changes into a close up shot of a clock fast forwarding in time , although one criticism here is that the clock is not centred very well with a bit of unsteady movement and the light reflecting off the plastic covering. Although the clock hands are kept centred in the screen being the main focus.
3. The shot used here is a close up of the books dropping to the ground, the books are centred in the middle of the frame due to being the main focus while in the top section of the scene you can used about she the characters foot, this just keeps the image strong that the books were linked to the character dropping them. Although the lighting on this shot is quick bright and over exposed on the floor giving the shot a yellowy tinge, to improve if this happens again I could possibly add a darker effect onto the shot bringing the brightness of the shot down. In this shot long shot has been used to capture the character running off as though she is running away from something but to the audience this is the unknown. The shot captures the length of the corridor with the character running off into the far distance. You can see the dimness of the corridor and as the character gets further away she also starts to dim too. The hand is positioned in the centre of the frame due to being the main focus of the shot as it slowly slides down the window, the rim around the door is dark and through the window is a bright light making this drawing in the focus to the lighter area while giving the hand a darker outline to make it stand out. The shot used is just a simple straight shot looking straight on as though it is in level with eye line.
4. Camera movement and angles. Camera pans as it follows character out of the room and pans round to the right to watch her walk past the windows capturing her slowing down and stopping at the second window to take a quick glimpse and pauses and the character takes a brief moment to look in the camera so to connect with the audience watching. Camera pans downwards slowly to capture the books falling to the floor in slow motion as they hit and rebound., at a high angle looking down upon the books, all though the books are only objects it does reflect a slight bit over vulnerability as the camera is looking down on the books that the character just dropped reflecting the vulnerability on the character as she was obviously not meant to drop them but was spooked into doing so.
5. Again here the camera is high angled looking down upon the character sitting in the corner rocking , the shot gives the impression that the character is either very scared or has ultimately become possessed, but with the high angle shot it is done to show the lose of control of the character and becoming vulnerable to the situation as she was unable to escape. There is no movement of the camera here, this is so the audience is able to see the motion of the character rocking back and fourth and how the lighting catches on certain parts of her face as she leans forward and then gets darker the further back the character is. Here there are three of the same shots which are cut up between other shots and as each one appears the camera slowly zooms in getting closer and closer in each one of the three clips, this is not done through the zoom on the camera but through the editing of my teaser trailer in ‘Premier Pro’. The angle of the camera is at a straight eye level shot so that the camera zooms in towards the characters face. The quality of the video quality does slightly deteriorate the closer the shot zooms in, so to improve on this maybe the zoom could be done in filming by using the camera rather than during the editing stage.
6. Voice over, dialogue and text titles. My teaser trailer involves no voice over's or dialogue as I didn't want to explain and give the story away to the audience, I wanted to keep the audience guessing and unaware of what was going on, just by getting the indication from the opening line that something bad was about to happen. The words seemed and ordinary have been emphasized to be bigger than the other words as they are key words to the introduction so that if the audience just picked up on those two words only then they would still get the image of something unexpected is going to happen.
7. Music Choice and pace of editing. The music I chose for my teaser trailer I feel fits well through out the majority of my trailer but there is a section in the middle that the music becomes a bit more up beat to the images on screen. To begin with the music starts very slowly and eerie and gradually fades in over the beginning intro title and then stays at a low eerie volume for the first set of shots that give a basic outline of the setting of the trailer. As these set of shots that accompany each other end and the scene fades from the character leaving the classroom to the shot of the clock fast forward in time, the music starts to increase in volume and pace, there is a short section here that I think could be improved on where the music becomes a little less eerie and more cheery, to improve here I could of blended in another track that fitted in better. But as the trailer continues the music starts to suit the shots again with a slight increase in volume at the point where the books are dropped and then again as the character starts to run down the corridor and then reaches its peak in volume at the last shot of the character standing at the door with the camera zooming in. The next shot of the character sitting and rocking in the corner the music starts to decrease in volume then slowly starts to fade out as the title of the film appears then completely fades out.
