The document provides a review and critique of the shots, editing, music, and other elements used in a teaser trailer. It analyzes individual shots and suggests improvements like using a tripod to avoid shaking. It notes that the editing and music work together to build tension through faster pacing and shorter shots. However, it feels some shots are too long and could be improved by faster editing to better build suspense. Overall it provides a thorough analysis of the trailer's effectiveness and offers suggestions for enhancing different elements in a future trailer.
2. Opening shot in forest Here I feel the setting is appropriate as it is secluded and the actual area is unknown allowing the audience to realise that they are not in a social area, however the voice over of laughter tells the audience that the problems have not started. If I were to re do this shot I would use a tripod in order to keep the camera at a perfect angle and stop it from shaking. Also I would fit the voice over so that there is not a section where there is no sound at all because it stops the shots from flowing correctly.
3. Door shot I like this shot as the long shot allows the audience to establish the setting and the isolated door gives an unknown eerie feel, the characters facial expressions show happiness and enjoyment giving the idea that nothing is wrong at that moment. If I were to redo this shot I would, again, use a tripod which I think would make the focus of the camera a bit clearer and the angle a bit straighter.
4. Room/establishing photo shot The angle of this shot looks as if it is from someone’s point of view as the camera is positioned through two planks as if someone is spying on the characters, setting the genre and building up tension. The dark lighting allows the audience to question what the characters are looking at, then the light coming on answers the question shocking the audience. The pictures on the wall cannot be seen very clearly and the position of the camera shows a lot of the blank wall, I would create a bigger area of photos in order to establish more of the setting.
5. Running of the feet This shot clearly shows the characters actions and running back through the forest shows that the characters are running back the way they came and their actions show panic and fear clearly building tension however I would use a tripod to keep the camera perfectly still and create a more balanced angle.
6. Bathroom shot The mid shot allows the audience to establish the setting and the mood of the character. When she sees the writing on the mirror her facial expressions are clearly shown and the next angle establishes more of the setting, the angle also allows the audience to see the bathroom door closing and the character running away, setting the scary genre and panicking the audience. The screams and bangs used within this seen create tension and fit the genre of the trailer.
7. Editing and music The editing used gets faster paced as the trailer goes on in sync with the music that gets faster and stronger. Both of these elements work together to create tension for the audience and the build up of short shots allows the audience to question what is going to happen. However I feel some of my shots are too long and therefore if I were to redo my trailer I would have faster pacing editing to create more of a build up for the audience and this would allow me to capture more of a range of shots as well.
8. Voice over, dialogue, text titles The voice over gives an overview of the story and as it is a young girl speaking its quite creepy and sets the genre. The dialogue used throughout gives continuity of the genre with the use of screams, bangs and footsteps and this also keeps the audience constantly on edge. The titles at the end of the trailer clearly give the name of the film and the website allowing audiences to research about the film, the text is the same and it is thin and white linking to the genre. When doing my actual trailer I will spend more time on the design of the trailer title and use after effects in order to perfect it.
