Pre-Production
Louis Biddles
Pre-production• What are you making? For my final project, I have had to chose a specific area of media to focus on
and create a product in that area. I decided to create a product in the video/film area of media more
specifically a film trailer. I decided to do this as this is the area I am most interested in and also enjoy the
most therefore I will create the best possible product I will make. My product is about a young girl who
just gets a regular Uber home however, it is her unlucky day as her driver takes an obsessive liking to the
girl and stats to follow her around and stalk her everywhere she goes. I decided on a stalker thriller trailer
as I had a clear idea of what I could create and I knew it would be achievable to make it with the
resources I have.
• Why? Because my product is a thriller, the main purpose of it is to create intense suspense. I will do
this taking different techniques I have learnt from existing products and include them in my product. This
includes techniques like a tone change half way through the trailer. This create an immense amount of
suspense as it catches the audience off guard. As well as that, the music in the trailers create a very tense
atmosphere. This is done by including a music change of increasing the volume of the music. Sound
effects that are added f the top of the music to create suspense also work perfectly therefore I will
include many of these in my final product.
• Who is it for? My target audience is the older generation. This is because whilst doing audience
research, I found out that people aged 50+ much prefer thriller films to the younger generation. My
product will attract both genders but I will try to target males more than females. This is because my
trailer is quite intense and I feel stereotypically males will enjoy is intensity more than females.
• Where will it appear/on what? My product will appear on YouTube. Firstly, this is because it is a very
easy platform to upload videos or products on. This means that I don’t have to stress about m product
being uploaded. As well as that, this YouTube is a very popular platform meaning that if I wanted, man
different people could view my product and possibly give me some feedback on it. This would be good a
sit help my future products as I would pick up different skills and tips from different people. I could then
incorporate them in my future projects making them the bets I could possibly make.

Post production
Whilst filming my product, I realized that my original planned storyboard and shot list was not
going to work effectively for my product. This was because I had not collected enough shots
on my shot list and I needed to change the order and arrangement of each shot. This effected
my storyboard as I needed a longer story and the different events would happen in a different
order. I wanted to change it all as I thought it would work much more effectively in the new
order than the older one.
In the final cut, I ended up with 28 different shots. This was needed as my product needed
bulking up and also needed more shots to convey the story of the product more effectively.
The increase in shots and change of shots made the trailer much more intense and look
significantly more processional. This is clearly beneficial as I want my trailer to look and flow
as well as possible.
Pre-production: Locations
For my product, I have chose an array of different locations to fil. Each will add their own unique and important element to
my trailer. Firstly, have decide to film on some quite streets. I am planning to film near my house as not many cars pass
through it. The idea of including a quiet street in my product is used to create suspense. This is because if I filmed on a busy
street filled with people, the audience would feel the character is protected. Whereas, if no one is around and it is juts the
girl and the stalker, the girl appears very vulnerable. This will create a very uneasy atmosphere and leave the audience on
the edge of their seats.
The second location I want to film in is a ginnel. I have easy access to one as there is one less than a minute walk from my
house. I wanted to include a location like this as it is very secluded . This creates an unescapable atmosphere therefore
creating immense amount of suspense. Ginnels are also very quite as not many people walk through them especially the
one I am planning to film in. This creates an even more suspenseful atmosphere as there is no one there to save the girl if
anything goes wrong.
I have chosen to film in a house but more specifically the kitchen and bedroom. This is because the kitchen is a very open
space meaning there is lots of room to film and include characters in. It is also normally right by the door meaning it will fit
perfectly with my story. The kitchen also includes many different components meaning the characters can be doing
something when talking. This creates a more realistic feel therefore adding to the suspense atmosphere of the product. I
have planned to film in a bedroom because it is a very causal room where a large majority of the younger generation spend
their time. This again creates a very realistic feel and makes the product more believable for the audience. This makes the
audience much more engaged in the product.
I have decided to film a short section of the trailer in a car. This will be used when Lilly gets in the Uber and when she is
talking to her mum about her stalker. I have chosen the car as a location because it is a very popular place for parents and
children to talk about events therefore this creates a sense of realism and makes the story of the product more believable.
For my product I have also decided to film just a single shot at a park. This is because when quite, parks can look incredibly
mysterious and abandoned. This creates a very tense and suspense atmosphere therefore, fitting the theme of my product
perfectly.
Pre-production: Locations
Style Sheet-trailer
In my product, I am planning on including quite a dark coloured blue. This is because I am
planning to use a similar tone when doing colour correction in post production. The colour blue
alone creates very negative connotations which will create a very dull and gloomy atmosphere
for my trailer. The fact the shade of blue I have chosen is very dull emphasizes this tone even
more creating an even more dark and negative tone tone to the product. This is good as the
colour scheme of a film reflects the story and the message therefore the fact that this specific
colour creates a very cold and depressing theme means that the products tone is conveyed more
efficiently.
In my product, I have planned to include a grey based colour tone whilst in post production. This
will be achieved by predominantly decreasing the saturation and brightness of the product. I
could also change it to a more grey tone when using colour correction in Premier Pro. This will
create a much more glum feel to the trailer. This would be beneficial to my product as it conveys
the story of the trailer very effectively as it creates a very negative atmosphere. I want this tone
to be portrayed as this will create a much more depressed fell for the audience making them feel
more for the characters. The colour white is also included on this colour palette. This is because
it creates a very plain and emotionless feel. This is good as it reflects the stalker in the trailer and
adds to the overall tone of the product. However, white is also good as some may view the
colour as a sign of positivity. This creates a sense of hope for the young girl Lilly. This leaves the
audience gripped to the product as they don’t know what route the product is going to take. As
well as that, I have included this color palette as I plan to translate its dark theme on to what my
characters wear. I want the main characters to wear quite dark clothes as this will portray the
depressing and negative tone of the product more efficiently as there clothes will symbolize the
message of the trailer. Dark clothes will also give the product a very mature aesthetic meaning it
will look more professional which is the exact them I want to be conveyed.
Style Sheet-trailer
I am planning to include a similar shade to this colour palette in my trailer. This will be used for
any sort of trees or grass in the background of the trailer. I have decided on this specific shade
is as it very dark meaning it adds to the negative tone of the product and fits in perfectly with
the other colour tones. However, I wanted to include an element of slight brightness in my
product. This is because it creates a sense of hope and positivity for the characters. This will
create a more tense atmosphere for the product as it will leave the audience one edge for what
might happen in the product. This pallet of colour also still includes the dark colours of black
and grey. This is because the product must still include its dark colour to enforce the theme I
want to portray. These dark colour are the most significant element to create such a negative
and depressed tone.
I have included this specific colour scheme on my style sheet as all the colour included highly
enforces the theme of my product. The black suggests the idea of death and negativity which
creates a very dark atmosphere for the product. The colour grey creates some very negative
ideas. It portrays the idea of loss and depression. This idea fits perfectly in my product as this
creates a very dark and mysterious atmosphere leaving the audience on the edge of their
seats. The colour grey also however suggests balance which is needed in the product. This is
because we want there to be a glimpse of positivity in the trailer. This is so the audience feels
hope and optimism towards the characters. Overall, this creates a much more suspenseful
atmosphere as the direction of the product isn't clear.
Style Sheet-Poster
For my poster, I am planning to include colours included on this colour pallet. The primary
colour is black. I am definitely going to include this colour. This is because black signifies
the idea of fear and mystery therefore fitting the theme of my product perfectly. As well as
that, the colour is heavily associated with negativity which is the tone I want to portray on
my poster. I feel the very dark theme of this specific pallet will work perfectly to resemble
my trailer. This pallet also includes some darker shades of grey. I want to use this shade as
grey is associated with balance therefore the darker the grey, the less balance you have as
it will convey a much more negative theme. I feel the very dark theme of this specific pallet
will work perfectly to resemble my trailer.
For my poster, I am planning to use some colours on this colour pallet. The primary one
would be the dark blue. The colour blue is associated with the idea of trust and
intelligence however, i feel if I make the colour a much more darker shade, it creates a
much more mysterious and suspicious tone. This fits perfectly with my product as the Uber
driver seems very pleasant at first, but turns out to be not how he portrays himself.
Because of this, I want this to included on my poster as I want the theme and message of y
trailer to be reflected onto my poster. This is so the audience get an insight of what they
are in for when watching my product.
Pre-production: Fonts
For this specific text, I am planning to use this as an option
for my title on my product. This is because the text looks
clean and professional however, it seems to maintain quite
an intense and threatening look. This is good as it fits the
theme of my product meaning that the product portrays a
more intense and suspenseful tone. This text will also be
used for the title in my trailer. This is because I want there
to be a corresponding them between the two products and
this will be one of the elements linking them.
This text will be used for my billing block. This is because this
text is especially made for billing blocks and I want my product
to look as professional as possible. The text will be in white.
This is because if eel it will look the most clean and noticeable
in this specific colour.
I am also planning to use the Chalkduster text on photoshop. I am
thinking to use this as another possible text for my title and
perhaps actor names. This because the text almost looks written
out. This is good as it reflects the innocence and vulnerability of
the girl in my product. This will make the audience feel more
emotion for the character as they will pity her youth and
immaturity. As well as that, I just think the text looks very unique
which makes the product stand out from other posters. This is
clearly beneficial to the product as the audience will notice my
poster over others.

Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
The computer might crash I will make sure after every lesson that my
work is backed up onto either a memory stick
or One Drive. This is so I always have multiple
versions of the same file.
If College is closed for the day Make sure all worked is backed up. This is so I
can access my work whilst at home.
If I can’t get into college because if illness or
personal reasons
Make sure I can access all my work from home
by backing it up whilst in college.
If the weather changes and it starts raining I will get under the nearest piece of cover and
then wait for the rain to stop. I will make sure
the camera is in its bag to prevent any damage.
The public constantly getting in the way of my
shots
I will make sure I chose quite a quite location
for the majority of my shots. If filming in a busy
area, I will not film at peak time as it will be
quieter then.
The weather is too bright/too dark to film in to
portray the correct tone
I will wait for the weather to change or if it
isn't a massive change then just correct the
colour tone in post production.
Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Falling over chairs that have not been pushed
in properly
For this to be avoided, make sure when you
leave the room or your computer, your chair is
pushed in.
Spilling water If possible don't take it out your bag, but if it as
to be don’t leave it near the computer and
always make sure the lid is screwed on properly.
Pulling out wires Watch where you are putting your feet as you
may kick some out under the desk
Falling over tables Make sure you are watching where you are
going and make sure all the walkways in the
room are clear enough to walk down.
Getting a headache from looking at your
computer to much
Don’t have your brightness on its maximum
and take a few breaks from looking at the
screen.

Pre production fmp

  • 2. Pre-production• What are you making? For my final project, I have had to chose a specific area of media to focus on and create a product in that area. I decided to create a product in the video/film area of media more specifically a film trailer. I decided to do this as this is the area I am most interested in and also enjoy the most therefore I will create the best possible product I will make. My product is about a young girl who just gets a regular Uber home however, it is her unlucky day as her driver takes an obsessive liking to the girl and stats to follow her around and stalk her everywhere she goes. I decided on a stalker thriller trailer as I had a clear idea of what I could create and I knew it would be achievable to make it with the resources I have. • Why? Because my product is a thriller, the main purpose of it is to create intense suspense. I will do this taking different techniques I have learnt from existing products and include them in my product. This includes techniques like a tone change half way through the trailer. This create an immense amount of suspense as it catches the audience off guard. As well as that, the music in the trailers create a very tense atmosphere. This is done by including a music change of increasing the volume of the music. Sound effects that are added f the top of the music to create suspense also work perfectly therefore I will include many of these in my final product. • Who is it for? My target audience is the older generation. This is because whilst doing audience research, I found out that people aged 50+ much prefer thriller films to the younger generation. My product will attract both genders but I will try to target males more than females. This is because my trailer is quite intense and I feel stereotypically males will enjoy is intensity more than females. • Where will it appear/on what? My product will appear on YouTube. Firstly, this is because it is a very easy platform to upload videos or products on. This means that I don’t have to stress about m product being uploaded. As well as that, this YouTube is a very popular platform meaning that if I wanted, man different people could view my product and possibly give me some feedback on it. This would be good a sit help my future products as I would pick up different skills and tips from different people. I could then incorporate them in my future projects making them the bets I could possibly make. Reflection:

  • 14. Post production Whilst filming my product, I realized that my original planned storyboard and shot list was not going to work effectively for my product. This was because I had not collected enough shots on my shot list and I needed to change the order and arrangement of each shot. This effected my storyboard as I needed a longer story and the different events would happen in a different order. I wanted to change it all as I thought it would work much more effectively in the new order than the older one. In the final cut, I ended up with 28 different shots. This was needed as my product needed bulking up and also needed more shots to convey the story of the product more effectively. The increase in shots and change of shots made the trailer much more intense and look significantly more processional. This is clearly beneficial as I want my trailer to look and flow as well as possible.
  • 15. Pre-production: Locations For my product, I have chose an array of different locations to fil. Each will add their own unique and important element to my trailer. Firstly, have decide to film on some quite streets. I am planning to film near my house as not many cars pass through it. The idea of including a quiet street in my product is used to create suspense. This is because if I filmed on a busy street filled with people, the audience would feel the character is protected. Whereas, if no one is around and it is juts the girl and the stalker, the girl appears very vulnerable. This will create a very uneasy atmosphere and leave the audience on the edge of their seats. The second location I want to film in is a ginnel. I have easy access to one as there is one less than a minute walk from my house. I wanted to include a location like this as it is very secluded . This creates an unescapable atmosphere therefore creating immense amount of suspense. Ginnels are also very quite as not many people walk through them especially the one I am planning to film in. This creates an even more suspenseful atmosphere as there is no one there to save the girl if anything goes wrong. I have chosen to film in a house but more specifically the kitchen and bedroom. This is because the kitchen is a very open space meaning there is lots of room to film and include characters in. It is also normally right by the door meaning it will fit perfectly with my story. The kitchen also includes many different components meaning the characters can be doing something when talking. This creates a more realistic feel therefore adding to the suspense atmosphere of the product. I have planned to film in a bedroom because it is a very causal room where a large majority of the younger generation spend their time. This again creates a very realistic feel and makes the product more believable for the audience. This makes the audience much more engaged in the product. I have decided to film a short section of the trailer in a car. This will be used when Lilly gets in the Uber and when she is talking to her mum about her stalker. I have chosen the car as a location because it is a very popular place for parents and children to talk about events therefore this creates a sense of realism and makes the story of the product more believable. For my product I have also decided to film just a single shot at a park. This is because when quite, parks can look incredibly mysterious and abandoned. This creates a very tense and suspense atmosphere therefore, fitting the theme of my product perfectly.
  • 17. Style Sheet-trailer In my product, I am planning on including quite a dark coloured blue. This is because I am planning to use a similar tone when doing colour correction in post production. The colour blue alone creates very negative connotations which will create a very dull and gloomy atmosphere for my trailer. The fact the shade of blue I have chosen is very dull emphasizes this tone even more creating an even more dark and negative tone tone to the product. This is good as the colour scheme of a film reflects the story and the message therefore the fact that this specific colour creates a very cold and depressing theme means that the products tone is conveyed more efficiently. In my product, I have planned to include a grey based colour tone whilst in post production. This will be achieved by predominantly decreasing the saturation and brightness of the product. I could also change it to a more grey tone when using colour correction in Premier Pro. This will create a much more glum feel to the trailer. This would be beneficial to my product as it conveys the story of the trailer very effectively as it creates a very negative atmosphere. I want this tone to be portrayed as this will create a much more depressed fell for the audience making them feel more for the characters. The colour white is also included on this colour palette. This is because it creates a very plain and emotionless feel. This is good as it reflects the stalker in the trailer and adds to the overall tone of the product. However, white is also good as some may view the colour as a sign of positivity. This creates a sense of hope for the young girl Lilly. This leaves the audience gripped to the product as they don’t know what route the product is going to take. As well as that, I have included this color palette as I plan to translate its dark theme on to what my characters wear. I want the main characters to wear quite dark clothes as this will portray the depressing and negative tone of the product more efficiently as there clothes will symbolize the message of the trailer. Dark clothes will also give the product a very mature aesthetic meaning it will look more professional which is the exact them I want to be conveyed.
  • 18. Style Sheet-trailer I am planning to include a similar shade to this colour palette in my trailer. This will be used for any sort of trees or grass in the background of the trailer. I have decided on this specific shade is as it very dark meaning it adds to the negative tone of the product and fits in perfectly with the other colour tones. However, I wanted to include an element of slight brightness in my product. This is because it creates a sense of hope and positivity for the characters. This will create a more tense atmosphere for the product as it will leave the audience one edge for what might happen in the product. This pallet of colour also still includes the dark colours of black and grey. This is because the product must still include its dark colour to enforce the theme I want to portray. These dark colour are the most significant element to create such a negative and depressed tone. I have included this specific colour scheme on my style sheet as all the colour included highly enforces the theme of my product. The black suggests the idea of death and negativity which creates a very dark atmosphere for the product. The colour grey creates some very negative ideas. It portrays the idea of loss and depression. This idea fits perfectly in my product as this creates a very dark and mysterious atmosphere leaving the audience on the edge of their seats. The colour grey also however suggests balance which is needed in the product. This is because we want there to be a glimpse of positivity in the trailer. This is so the audience feels hope and optimism towards the characters. Overall, this creates a much more suspenseful atmosphere as the direction of the product isn't clear.
  • 19. Style Sheet-Poster For my poster, I am planning to include colours included on this colour pallet. The primary colour is black. I am definitely going to include this colour. This is because black signifies the idea of fear and mystery therefore fitting the theme of my product perfectly. As well as that, the colour is heavily associated with negativity which is the tone I want to portray on my poster. I feel the very dark theme of this specific pallet will work perfectly to resemble my trailer. This pallet also includes some darker shades of grey. I want to use this shade as grey is associated with balance therefore the darker the grey, the less balance you have as it will convey a much more negative theme. I feel the very dark theme of this specific pallet will work perfectly to resemble my trailer. For my poster, I am planning to use some colours on this colour pallet. The primary one would be the dark blue. The colour blue is associated with the idea of trust and intelligence however, i feel if I make the colour a much more darker shade, it creates a much more mysterious and suspicious tone. This fits perfectly with my product as the Uber driver seems very pleasant at first, but turns out to be not how he portrays himself. Because of this, I want this to included on my poster as I want the theme and message of y trailer to be reflected onto my poster. This is so the audience get an insight of what they are in for when watching my product.
  • 20. Pre-production: Fonts For this specific text, I am planning to use this as an option for my title on my product. This is because the text looks clean and professional however, it seems to maintain quite an intense and threatening look. This is good as it fits the theme of my product meaning that the product portrays a more intense and suspenseful tone. This text will also be used for the title in my trailer. This is because I want there to be a corresponding them between the two products and this will be one of the elements linking them. This text will be used for my billing block. This is because this text is especially made for billing blocks and I want my product to look as professional as possible. The text will be in white. This is because if eel it will look the most clean and noticeable in this specific colour. I am also planning to use the Chalkduster text on photoshop. I am thinking to use this as another possible text for my title and perhaps actor names. This because the text almost looks written out. This is good as it reflects the innocence and vulnerability of the girl in my product. This will make the audience feel more emotion for the character as they will pity her youth and immaturity. As well as that, I just think the text looks very unique which makes the product stand out from other posters. This is clearly beneficial to the product as the audience will notice my poster over others.

  • 24. Contingency Planning Potential Issue Solution The computer might crash I will make sure after every lesson that my work is backed up onto either a memory stick or One Drive. This is so I always have multiple versions of the same file. If College is closed for the day Make sure all worked is backed up. This is so I can access my work whilst at home. If I can’t get into college because if illness or personal reasons Make sure I can access all my work from home by backing it up whilst in college. If the weather changes and it starts raining I will get under the nearest piece of cover and then wait for the rain to stop. I will make sure the camera is in its bag to prevent any damage. The public constantly getting in the way of my shots I will make sure I chose quite a quite location for the majority of my shots. If filming in a busy area, I will not film at peak time as it will be quieter then. The weather is too bright/too dark to film in to portray the correct tone I will wait for the weather to change or if it isn't a massive change then just correct the colour tone in post production.
  • 25. Health and Safety Potential Issue How will the issue be avoided? Falling over chairs that have not been pushed in properly For this to be avoided, make sure when you leave the room or your computer, your chair is pushed in. Spilling water If possible don't take it out your bag, but if it as to be don’t leave it near the computer and always make sure the lid is screwed on properly. Pulling out wires Watch where you are putting your feet as you may kick some out under the desk Falling over tables Make sure you are watching where you are going and make sure all the walkways in the room are clear enough to walk down. Getting a headache from looking at your computer to much Don’t have your brightness on its maximum and take a few breaks from looking at the screen.
