2. ALT J –TESSELLATE
Alt J are an indie rock band and released the
song tessellate on July 13th 2012
3. INFLUENCED BY
The artists are said to be influenced by the
band ‘Radiohead’, both being of the same
genre.
4. REPRESENTATION OF GENDER
The music video shows the female characters as dominant over the males, this is
due to the males apparent desires showing them surrounding the female in an
animalistic way. It conforms to the hyper-sexualised female stereotypes, showing
the females dancing up against male characters, whilst the male character stays
dominant.
Due to the way the males throughout treat the female characters, the audience see
the woman being objectified, linking to artists such as Rhianna who also often
objectifies herself and others in her music videos.
5. FEMALE STEREOTYPES
The whole video is shot in one room, showing different groups of people
throughout. Here we get a feel of intimacy between the characters, this is
example in this shot
Due to the facial expressions shown the female characters shows to be
ignoring the male characters, not conforming to the often used
stereotype female characters are given, showing her to be one of the
stronger independent characters in the music video.
However we later see this contradicted in the video as we see
a female character gripping on to the male, showing him as
dominant following the often used stereotypes.
6. MYVIDEO
My music video is of an indie pop genre, having similar themes to the bandAlt J.
My audience is aimed to be people between the age of 16-22 . It targets a
predominantly Female audience due to the themes expressed within the video
and also the protagonist.
The audience that follow are likely to be onTwitter, Facebook and Instagram due
to the places the song would be advertised.
The ethnicity of both characters in my video areWhite British.
The male character conforms to representation ofYouth mainly due to the violent
actions we see him perform. However, the female character challenges these
representations showing her as the one who has been poorly treated showing her
as a calm quiet individual due to the abuse she receives.
