Previous work experience:
1980 – 1983 Training and general nursing at Mackay Misericordiae Hospital. Undertook
and successfully completed general nursing certificate and then obtained position on staff.
1983 – 1984 Registered Nurse Palm Island Hospital. All facets of general nursing, with
particular emphasis on infant care. Trained and practice all aspects of indigenous health,
emergency care, suturing, X-Ray etc.
1984 – 1987 Undertook and successfully completed certificate in Mental Health at
Townsville General Hospital. Obtained a position on staff. All aspects of psychiatric nursing
and patient care including assessment and follow up therapy.
1987 Registered Nurse. Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane District, Coronary Care Unit.
All aspects of cardiac care nursing.
1987 – 1988 Registered Nurse. Mental Health at Townsville General Hospital. Four-month
period in charge.
1988 – 1989 Registered nurse. Operating Theatre. Townsville General Hospital. All aspects
of major and minor surgery.
1989 – 1992 Registered Nurse. Charleville Base Hospital. All facets of general nursing, with
periods of time spent in theatre, emergency and surgical ward. Large amount of time on
nursing the elderly. Second in Charge and periods of relieving in Charge of Charleville
Nursing Home.
1992 – 1993 Community Health Nurse (Level 2). Charleville District. Assisting members of
the community to attain and maintain optimum health. Liaison with other related services

2. to achieve the same. Identification and implementation of Health Promotion activities.
1993 – 1996 Accreditation and Quality Activities Co-ordinator (St Aubyn’s Hospital and
Nursing Home, Kingaroy). Completed at the University of New England a course on Quality
Management, Human Resource Management, Leadership skills and Organisational Change.
ACHS training obtained also. Completed a course on Instructional skills, so I could train staff.
This role entailed preparing a Hospital and Nursing home for their first accreditation. They
were awarded accreditation for three years. Also completed and obtained from the NSW
College of Nursing “Adolescent Health” in 1994.
1996 – 1998 Project Manager for the Southern Qld Rural Division of General Practice on
“Prevention of Adolescent Suicide”. This role involved setting up networks in communities
and education on Adolescent Suicide Prevention. Practice Manager for local GP service. I
also managed a project on "Medication and the elderly". This involved organising a geriatric
pharmacist specialist to reviewing all nursing home medications and then follow up
appointments with their General Practitioners to educate and advise them on best practice
and conflicting medications.
1998 – 1999 Community Network officer (Kingaroy District – QLD Health) for the
Prevention of Adolescent Suicide.
1999 – 2007 School Based Youth Health Nurse (Grade 2). Mackay District – QLD Health.
Assisting Education Qld with Health Promotional Activities eg RAP, Sun Safety etc. One on
one counselling with students, parents and teachers. Supporting teachers of students with
education on harm minimization, drinking etc. (Motivational interviewing when needed one
on one). Macro to micro health prevention nursing. Completed Immunisation certificate.
2007 – 2009 Seconded to Mental Health Mackay Base Hospital. All aspects of Acute Care
Mental Health. Including assessments in Emergency Department and in particular a lot of
time in the High Dependency Unit (4 beds and 1 seclusion room).
2010 Long service leave.
Nov 2011 Resigned RN Grade 6 position at Mackay District Health.
2012 -2013 January worked at Homesteads Aged Care as a Registered Nurse (Level 2). I
resigned from the position in June. Parents were unwell and needed care. I also worked at
Merrimac Park Private, Earl Haven Aged Care and Ashmore Retreat Care.
