used to do research.
• Use it to find books, magazine articles, news,
videos, and images about the topic you are
researching.
3. Why we use it?
• Kids InfoBits is a trusted source that contains
reliable information for us to use when we need to
know more about someone or something.
• It is an easy-to-navigate resource for doing database
searching as part of the research process.
• Database searching is a skill you will need as you
continue your education through middle school, high
school, and beyond.

4. How we get to it?
From our library
research page:
Our library page has a Research and Other Tools section.
Click on that section and then click on the
Kids InfoBits logo.
This will take you to
the Login page
for the database.
6. How do we find what we
need?
Searching can be done a few different ways
starting on the home page.
1. We can “Browse Topics.”
2. We can select a subject from the main groups
provided.
3. We can search using the “Search” box at the top.

8. Browsing
Clicking “Browse Topics” will bring up a long list of results that you can then
narrow down by topic if desired by choosing a category.
9. Subjects
There are 12 subjects to choose from: Animals, Music and Movies, People, Plants,
Sports, Technology, Arts, Geography, Health, Literature, Science, Social Studies.
After you
select your
subject a
box with
more
specific
options will
appear.
10. Searching
If you know exactly what you are looking for
you can type it into the search box at the top.
Let’s go through an example: Who was Enrico Fermi?
I typed
“Fermi”
into the
search box.

Next, let’s explore some of the tools Kids InfoBits
includes to make researching easier.
13. Tools
When you get to your topic page some helpful “Tools” will appear on
the right side of the results page. It looks like this:
Use the “Citation Tools” to be sure you are properly giving
credit to the source of your information
14. Explore the other Tools available.
Particularly useful is the Dictionary and the
Highlights and Notes tool.
Access the Dictionary
by first selecting More
Dictionary will appear as an
option. Click it and then type
the word you want to look up.
Kids InfoBits has a Highlights and Notes tool
that lets you select text you think is important so
you can reference back to it easily. You can also
type your own notes related to the highlighted
text to save for later.
First select your text and then click Then pick your highlighter color
Click Notes if you want to write a comment
