Presented at the SUNY Empire State College 2019 Fall Student Conference - In our personal and professional lives, opinions vary as to whether self-care is at best a luxury or at worst self-indulgent. However, in recent years, there has been a bit of a “self-care revolution” which has helped to destigmatize the concept of caring for yourself. Unfortunately, finding the time to prioritize and engage in self-care activities remains a challenge. In this session, we will explore the need to prioritize self-care in our personal lives as well as part of the leadership roles we play. Participants will gain a better understanding of the concept of self-care and learn about pertinent resources to help them begin to develop their own self-care plans.

order to take care of our mental, emotional, and
physical health. Although it's a simple concept in
theory, it's something we very often overlook.

Self Care breaks the myth that self
care is a wine party, Netflix binge, or
pedicure social. Self care is what's
needed for your well-being and
should always leave you with more
energy and feelings of revitalization.
Often, the activities that are
described as self-care leave you
more depleted and with less energy.
This talk will break the myth and
discuss the 4 components of self
care that will support your overall
wellness;
-nourishing foods,
-stillness & movement,
-time in nature, and
-self expression.
