1. Survey Analysis
I startedby askingall myparticipantstowatch the official Force Awakens
trailer.Thisfirstquestionallowsme tosortall my answersintospecificcategoriesbasedongender.I
usedsurveymonkeytoconductmysurveyand so I hadto create a separate table toshow all
comparisons,howeveritallowsme tosee ageneral overview
of the age range of my participants.
This questionwouldthenallow me tosortthe genderof the
age ranges,allowingme tocreate the gendergroupsof both
the primaryand secondaryaudiences.ThismeansthatIcan
thenanalyse how differentgroupsare affectedbythe trailer
and otherpublicityeventssurroundingthe film. Thismeans
that I can thenclearlysee whatseparatesthe fourmain
audiencesandhow disneycateredforall of them.
Askingtheiropinionstraightawayallowedme toworkout
whetherthey wouldactuallybe interestedinstarwars.This
thenmeantthat I coulddiscardcertai9nresultsor create a comparison.Forexample,surprisinglyI
foundoutthat many more teenage boysdislike starwarsthantheirfemale counterparts.This
challengesconvenmtionalattitudesthatstarwars onlyappealstomales. Thismayarguablybe due
to the fact that there are more malesthattookthe surveythanfemales,exceptthatdue tothe
abilitytogroupthe responsesaclear proportionisviewable.
Thisquestionallowedme tosee intotheir
mental processesanddeciphertheirpersonality
traits,and howconventionallytheythought.Forexamplesome people thoughtthe actionwould
appelatotheirparents,thisperhapsmaynot be what wasexpecteddue tothe factthe parents
wouldbe deemedmore nostalgic.Thisquestionallowedpeople totestthe boundariesof
conventions.
Thisquestiongave quite controversial
answers, manymalesbelievedthatthe
female leadwasthere justfortheiramusement.Thiscanbe deemedquietaconventional view for
malestohave,withmale superioritythroughtoutthe years.However,manyyoungfemales
commentedonthe youngfemale leadnotingthatshe isan
inspirationtogirlsworldwide.
The eventssurroundingthe filmwouldhelp establishthe
spendingpowerandlifestylesof the participants.Those
interestedincomicconwouldhave alot of time perhapsto
investinstarwars as well asmoneyto be able to dedicate to
the merchandise.Whereasthosewhowouldbe interested in
the DVD release wouldhave lowerfundsandbe interestedin
the nostalgicvalue of buyingthe film.
2. Thisbar chart showsthe distributionof character
appeal,showingthatalthoughthere are olderstar
wars viewersbeingsurveyed,the characterthat
appeals the mostisstill Rey,the newestadditiontothe
star wars franchise.Italsoshowsthatpeople are more
likelytobe attractedto the heroesthanthe villains,
thiscouldbe linkedtothe needfora hero inthe world
and a distopianfuture.
The last twoquestionsdefinitely
determine the audience’sspending
powerandlifestyles.The majorityof
those that answered“if I had enough
money”were fromthe secondary
audience,showingthatperhapstheir
spendingpowerisverylimited.
