ESF: European Social Fund
The European Social Fund (ESF) is the European Union's main
financial instrument for supporting employment in the member states
of the European Union as well as promoting economic and social
cohesion. ESF spending amounts to around 10% of the EU's total
budget.
The particular aim of ESF spending is to support the creation of more
and better jobs in the EU, which it does by co-funding national,
regional and local projects that improve the levels of employment, the
quality of jobs, and the inclusiveness of the labour market in the
Member States and their regions.
Some Skills Edge Training programmes, such as apprenticeships may
be part-funded by the ESF.

Ofsted: Raising standards, improving lives
Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. The inspect and
regulate services that care for children and young people, and services providing education and skills
for learners of all ages. Ofsted is a non-ministerial department.

Traineeships are a work
experience and study programme
for individuals aged 16 - 24 who
need employability skills to
become ready for work. They are
an ideal precursor to an

Apprenticeships combine work

You can apply for an Advanced
Learner Loan to help with the
costs of a course with Skills Edge
Training.
Loan eligibility doesn’t depend
on your income, and there are
no credit checks.
You must be 19 years of age or
older, and you will have to pay
your loan back once you have
finished the course, and earn
more than £21k per annum.

Designated Safeguarding Officer
The role of the DSO (Designated Safeguarding Officer) is
to ensure that our learners have a named person for
safeguarding. Their role is to make sure all staff are aware
how to raise safeguarding concerns, refer any concerns,
and monitor the outcomes of any intervention.
If you are in any doubt, or have a concern for yourself or
another you should contact our Designated Safeguarding
Officer as soon as possible. If you believe there is an
immediate risk to life, then you should contact the
