2. BETTER CITY
2.1 GUIDELINES
⢠Designing cities for all abilities- crosswalks and road signs be designed for
people of all abilities including children and the elderly
⢠Design cities for the needs of the majority- majority use of bikes and on
foot, minority on car usage
⢠Think about who cleans up after us- every city needs a garbage
anthropologist to help citizens remember who cleans up after us, and what
happens to the thing we purchase and then discard.
⢠Focus on quality of life and efficient infrastructure-open spaces and
plazas
2.2 PROPOSED IDEAS
⢠Free electronic library
⢠Bike rent
⢠Lighters with directions & wi-fi
⢠Ban ads in center
⢠Public wifi on streets
⢠Interactive sculptures
⢠Social containers
⢠Painted walls
⢠Renovation of empty spaces
⢠Garbage sorting
⢠Free spaces for sport
⢠Bike infrastructure
⢠Public spaces

5
6. ENBE | Final Project | Part A â Process Journal Report Compilation | Pamphlet & Model Representation
⢠Poor housing.
⢠Cars and industries are polluting city air and rivers more and more. Waste that
people throw away is burned or ends up in landfills. All of this makes modern
cities an unhealthy place to live in.
⢠Social problems-Crime, alcoholism and drug addiction is especially high in cities.
Many young people are unemployed.
⢠Multiethnic cities face conflicts between groups with different cultural
backgrounds.
3. ANCIENT CITIES
MOHENJO-DARO

Mohenjo-Daro, the western end of the city is an area known as the Citadel.
The area of the city was built on top of mound of bricks almost 12m high.
Several large buildings and structures on the Citadel mound suggest that this area
may have been used for
-public gatherings
-religious activties
-important administrative activities.
LOWER TOWN
Lower Town is made up of lower mounds that lie to the east and may represent
multiple walled neighbourhoods.
Lower Town is organized on a grid system with four avenues running from north to
south and 4 running from east to west. The avenues are several metres wide and
have drains running down th middle or side of roads.
The avenues divide the Lower Town into many blocks, which is further divided by
alleyways and lanes.
Clean water supply comes from wells within homes or public wells in streets.
Every house owns a bathroom paved with bricks, with drains connected through the
wall to the drains.
Over 700 public and private wells are found in Mohenjo-Daro.

DRAINAGE SYSTEM
THE GREAT BATH
From MOHENJO-DARO City planning, I understand the importance of
having a good sewage and water supply system and how are they
invented in a city.

Christened Endless City, it is tipped to soar 300 metres â which would make it as
high as the capitalâs tallest building The Shard â and offer a total floor space of
165,855 square metres.
The thousands of residents in this vertical city will also be able to stroll in its streets,
plazas and âhugeâ parks and admire the surrounding cityscape from viewing
platforms. And if anyone wants to escape this urban Eden it will be a simple matter
of taking a lift to the underground parking zone to pick up a car.

The two ramps winding up around the exterior â linked intermittently with bridges â
would be supported by six huge steel tubes, which would also enclose the staircases
and lifts used to transport people, energy, waste and water up and down the
building.
These tubes could also be used for lifting structural elements to the top of the 300-
metre structure, allowing the skyscraper to be made ever taller

THE NEW âXâ CITY- LEGION
Overview of the city
Legion is a city built in the sky located in the heart of the Kelantan State. It is built
following the concept of a sustainable city. It is a city with greenery apart from high
rise buildings.
WHY IS LEGION A BETTER CITY TO LIVE IN?
Legion provides the most efficient transportation system, well-developed
infrastructures, area with tight securities and also encourages the maximum usage of
renewable resources. The most important advantage of living in Legion is that it is
above the ground. This prevents Legion from flash floods, which often happens in
Kelantan.
AIM
Legion is built due to the destruction of most cities in Kelantan after the flash floods.
The flash floods have caused diseases among citizens and also homes and
buildings to be destroyed. As the mayor, Legion is a brand new city built for the
citizens to be safe from natural disasters apart from developing a better future city for
them.
