BTVTED II-A GFDT
At the end of this lesson, students are expected to demonstrate the
following:
Explain what is global demography and its importance;
Examine the different data presented and explain the major factors
affecting population changes
And explain what is the Philippine Family Planning Program and its
relevance to our current situation.
• Demography is defined as the statistical study of human populations
especially with reference to size and density, distribution, and vital
statistics. (Merriam Webster)
• Two Greek words “demos” meaning, the people and “graphy” from
means writing about or recording something.
• Demography represents the study of statistics such as birth, death,
incidents or disease which illustrates the changing structure of human
populations.
• The interest of people about demography increased due to the so-
called demographic change.
• A development sometimes called “the ageing of societies”
• This actually gives communities information they need to plan future
investments and services.
• In this globalized world, with our knowledge of the history of
population, we may use paradigms in the past.
• Population Size- the numbers of people in a country
• Population Growth- changes in the number of people in a given geographic area over
time
• Population Processes- fertility, mortality, and migration
• Factors Related to Population Processes- disease and socioeconomic characteristics
related to mortality, family formation, labor force participation, government policies
related to fertility
• Population Distribution- Geographic distribution such as among states or between
rural and rural areas
• Population Structure- age and sex composition
• Population Characteristics- education, income, labor force participation, marital status,
and race or ethnic group membership
• Global population is still
growing by more than 80
million a year, however, and
is most likely to continue
growing for the rest of this
century unless we take
action.
• The current world
population is almost 8
billion according to UN.
• CRUDE BIRTH
RATE
- The number of births
per 1000 people per year.
• CRUDE
MORTALITY OR
DEATH RATE
- The percentage of
people who die relative to
the country’s population
per year.
• MIGRATION
- Movement of people
from one area to
another.
- Net migration rate is
the difference between
the number of
immigrants (people
coming to an area)and
the number of
emigrants (people
leaving an area).
• The current population of the
Philippines is 110,758,916 as of
Saturday, April 24, 2021 based on
Worldometer elaboration of the
latest United Nations data.
• Philippines population is 1.41% of
the total world population and it
ranked as number 13.
OBJECTIVES:
1.The FP Program addresses the need to help couples and individuals achieve their
desired family size within the context of responsible parenthood and improve their
reproductive health to attain sustainable development.
2. It aims to ensure that quality FP services are available in DOH-retained hospitals,
LGU-managed health facilities, NGOs, and the private sector.
• Family Planning Program services are to be delivered within the context of the following
principles:
• 1. Respect for the sanctity of life. Family Planning aims to prevent abortion and therefore
can save the lives of both women and children.
• 2. Respect for human rights. Family Planning services will be made available using only
medically and legally permissible methods appropriate to the health status of the client.
Family Planning services shall be provided regardless of the client’s sex, number of children,
sexual orientation, moral background, occupation, socio-economic status, cultural and
religious belief.
• 3. The freedom of choice and voluntary decision. Couples and individuals will make family
planning decisions based on informed choice including their own moral, cultural or religious
beliefs.
• 4. Respect for the rights of clients to determine their desired family size. Couples and
individuals have the basic right to decide freely and responsibly the number and spacing of
their children.
