On our 72 hour retreat we determined that all family members were suffering severely under the COVID restrictions. These restrictions were obviously less avoidable in a city, so we entertained the thought to resettle the family to the country to reduce stress and strain. The country estate they owned was purchased as a vacation home. Accordingly it lacked a lot of the required infrastructure necessary to create a long-term home. 3. RELOCATING
TO THE COUNTRYSIDE
We extended our initial 72 hour retreat to involve
th entire family in determining which
requirements the new home should ful
f
il in order
to qualify as a long-term alternative to living in
the city; and they were plentiful.
From security concerns over access to good
schools to being able to use the land for produce,
and livestock… every conceivable aspect of every
family member was discussed, and integrated
into a grande requirement list.
This list would become the foundation of the
search for an adequate property.

4. UNREGULATED
ON A COUNTRY ESTATE
With this list of intimate requirements I set out to
contact dozens of real estate agents across the
globe.
A lot of disappointment ensued, yet
f
inally a
semi-appropriate chateau appeared on the
horizon.
While closest to optimal, a lot of adjustments had
to be made to ful
f
il all wishes of every family
member alike… in a rather short amount of time.

5. LESSRISKS
THROUGH LESS EXPOSURE
Despite the family being bound to the city for
professional reasons, COVID made it “en vogue”
to work from home; anywhere in the world for
some.
The new home was reconstructed to meet all
requirements, including the infrastructure
required for my principal to transit swiftly, and
take part in any web-meeting.
Due to less exposure to the outside world the risk
of getting infected with COVID was also reduced.
