• The term ‘literature is derived from the Latin word ‘Littera’ which means ‘letter of the
alphabet’ or in plural ‘Litterae’, meaning ‘letters’.

6. FICTION
1. Drama
• Stories composed in verse or prose, usually for theatrical
performance, where conflicts and emotion are expressed through
dialogue and action.
2. Fable
• Narration demonstrating a useful truth, especially in which animals
speak as humans; legendary, supernatural tale.
3. Fairy Tale
• Story about fairies or other magical creatures, usually for children.
4. Short Story
• Fiction of such brevity that it supports no subplots.

• The songs, stories, myths, and proverbs of a people or "folk" as
handed down by word of mouth.
6. Legend
• Story, sometimes of a national or folk hero, which has a basis in fact
but also includes imaginative material.
7. Mythology

that reveals human behavior and natural phenomena by its
symbolism; often pertaining to the actions of the gods.
8. Poetry
• Verse and rhythmic writing with imagery that creates emotional
responses.

• Narrative of a person's life, a true story about a real
person.
2. Essay
• A short literary composition that reflects the author's
outlook or point.

• Public address or discourse.

30.3 million km² including adjacent islands, it covers
6% of Earth's total surface area and 20% of its land
area. With 1.4 billion people as of 2021, it accounts
for about 18% of the world's human population.

located primarily in the Eastern and Northern
Hemispheres. It shares the continental landmass of
Eurasia with the continent of Europe, and the
continental landmass of Afro-Eurasia with Africa and
