2. What is
Golgi Apparatus?
A.K.A Lipochondria, Idiosome, Dalton complex, Baker’s
body, Golgi body or Golgi complex
• Mauldin, A. (n.d), defined Golgi apparatus as
a type of cell organelles that processes and
packages protein and lipid molecules.
• Rogers, K. (2022), defined Golgi apparatus as
a responsible transporter, modifier, and
packager of proteins and lipids molecules.
5. GOLGI
CAMILLO
• Golgi apparatus was discovered by
Camillo Golgi in 1898.
• It was one of the first organelles of the cell
to be discovered.
• He discovered it while searching for the
nervous system.
• Golgi referred Golgi as the “internal
reticular apparatus”. apparatus
• In 1910, the organelle became named for
him.
6. GOLGI
CAMILLO
• Born: July 07, 1843 (Corteno, Italy)
• Died: January 21, 1926 (Pavia, Italy)
• Receipt of Nobel Prize award for
his work on the structure of the
nervous system.
• The Nobel Prize in Physiology or
Medicine 1906
• Discovered Golgi bodies.
8. • Golgi complex is a series of STACKED
membranes that are in the CYTOPLASM as were
stated by Mauldin, A. (n.d).
• It is also located near NUCLUES and
ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM which is called
as PERINUCLEAR BODY as were stated by
National Human Genome Research Institute
(2022).

10. BIOGENESIS OF GOLGI
APPARATUS
The Golgi apparatus is developed from:
1. Invaginations of the plasma membrane.
2. Evagination of the nuclear membrane.
3. Endoplasmic reticulum

FUNCTION OF GOLGI
APPARATUS
• Important site of formation of glycoproteins and
glycolipids.
• Its function is to process and package the proteins that
have exited the rough endoplasmic reticulum, which
further be transported inside or outside of the cell.
• It is a factory of protein, in which the proteins received by
endoplasmic reticulum are further processed and sorted
for transport to several destinations, the lysosomes, plasma
membrane, or secretion.

FUNCTION OF GOLGI
APPARATUS
• In PLANT CELL, Golgi apparatus serve as site of complex which
the complex polysaccharide of cell wall was synthesis.
• A part of a cell that have broad range of cellular constituents,
travel along various pathways.
• The Golgi apparatus modifies proteins and lipids that it receives
from the endoplasmic reticulum. These biochemicals leave the
Golgi by EXOCYTOSIS before being delivered to different
intracellular or extracellular targets.
14. CISTERNAE
• Singular: Cisterna
• 5-8 folds of cisternae.
• It is a flat disc shaped sacks
with swollen ends, curved,
parallelly arranged, and
smooth membrane sacks.
• The curvature of the
cisternae gives polarity to
cisternae.
• Diameter (cisterna): 0.5-1. o
μm (micrometer)
16. a. Cis-Golgi network-faces the
nucleus, forms a connection
with the endoplasmic
reticulum and is the entry
point into the Golgi apparatus.
-Forming phase.
17. b. Cis-Golgi and Medial-
Golgi-major processing area
allowing biochemical
modifications.
18. c. Trans-Golgi network-exit
point for vesicles budding off
the Golgi surface, packages,
and sorts biochemicals into the
vesicles according to their
destination.
-Maturing phase.
19.
20. TUBULES
• short branched and
interconnected
filamentous structure.
It develops on the side
and considers as the
maturing face of
cisternae.
25. GOLGI VACUOLES
• large, rounded sacs. It
was produced by concave
surface of Golgi
apparatus. One of the
functions is lysosomes,
which composed of
granular substances.
Larger than vesicles.
