2. English Kids in America
The single taken from Lower Than Atlantis’ newest
self titled album. Mike Duce, vocalist of Lower Than
Atlantis, wrote the song while they were touring in
America. The song is about how the band planned
to ‘make it’ in America while touring but found it
quite difficult as they weren't as well known in the
USA as they are in the UK.
3. The first shot is a wide shot of the plane, showing us the singer of the band playing the first
riff. We can tell that the band are due to the seats, sectioned into three parts, with small
windows on each lane, like on an airplane. Typical band gear is shown i.e. the amps (to hear
the guitars), the mic and stand as well as the drum kit which is shown as the shot progresses.
The band are wearing casual clothes, dressed more for the colder weather and fitting with
the lyrics “It's hot there so I've been told, won't be wearing nothing at all”.
4. The second shot shows a wide shot of a beach, most likely in America due to the song title
and the clothes the band are wearing. Shots like these are thrown in the video to fit with the
lyrics of the song “We'll swim in seas and lie on sand”. The shot shows the band playing on
the beach with footballs etc while also showing the tall buildings in the background which
shows a contrast between work and play.
5. This medium shot shows the band walking down a street. The football is used as a prop to
show the band having fun. The palm trees and clothes that the band are wearing give the
effect that they are in a warm place. The filter that is used in this clip adds to the warm
effect.
6. A low angled medium close up shows three members of the band, most likely sat on a wall.
The trees in the background, again, give us the idea that they are in a warm place as well as
the bands clothing and sunglasses. No props are used in this shot.
7. “We'll get lost and find ourselves in a foreign land, we'll swim in seas and lie on sand” This
wide angle shot demonstrates these lyrics with band walking towards the beach, who are all
wearing swimming shorts and t-shirts. This later leads to the other shots of them playing on
the beach with footballs etc. No props are used in this shot.
8. This medium close up shows one of the band members in a café. We can tell this by the chairs
and the picture of burgers in the background. One of the props used is the video camera in
which he is holding. They actually use some of the footage from the camera for other clips in
the music video.
9. Another shot in which the band are featured in the airplane. This medium shot shows the
lead singer of the band. We know he’s the lead singer because of the microphone placed in
front of him. The head of the bassists guitar is visible on the right of the screen to give
awareness that the rest of the band are still there at the time however the deep focus used
in this shot gives the full attention to the singer.
10. This long shot shows the band playing inside the airplane. We know its an airplane from the
chairs and windows that are visible in the shot. Typical band gear is shown, making the
performance seem more realistic. Below the guitarist in the center of the video, the bands
newest album, in which this song is featured on, is advertised on a cabinet below the guitar
amp, giving the album a bit of self promotion.
11. The last shot is a wide shot of the band. In the background you can see a rollercoaster, which
shows that the band are in a theme park or just outside of one. This reinforces the idea of
the band having fun whilst in America. They are wearing typically the same clothes that have
been shown in the video (short sleeve shirts). No props are used in this shot.
