Kimberlyn Rhodes is pursuing a career in the music industry and has identified several roles that could help her achieve her long term goal of starting her own artist management company. She is currently attending Full Sail University to obtain a degree and gain experience through an internship. Rhodes has outlined entry-level roles at a record label that she feels would help expand her skillset, such as an executive assistant or A&R assistant position. After gaining experience, she would seek a role as an artist manager before eventually starting her own company. Rhodes has identified skills and qualifications needed for these roles, as well as classes, internships, and professional associations that would help build her career path.
2. EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT
I want this job, because I believe it will
increase my skillset and lead me in the
right direction to my career of choice. In
the job post it states that the creative
department is responsible for both
finding and developing musical artists.
That’s exactly what I want to do.
Therefore being able to have an
opportunity to work as an assistant will
give me the chance to create my own
networking and learn more about the
industry as well as finding the steps I
need to take in order to achieve my long
term goals.
3. A&R ASSISTANT
I would like to have this job, because
I believe it is a phenomenal way to
learn how to scout talent and help
maintain a label’s roster.This is a
step towards my long term because
it allows me to learn how A&R
works while furthering my
networking skills. If I want to be in
artist management, this is one of the
places I would need to start.
4. SECONDARY JOB
After gaining a few years of
experience in the music industry, I
would apply for this job.This job
listing as an artist manager would be
one of the final steps in reaching my
long term goals.The dream is to
have my own artist management
company, but if I can work for
someone else until I build up my
own clientele it would help me
eventually branch out into my own
company.

I obtain all of these qualifications except a degree and relative music experience.
I will be furthering my education at Full Sail to obtain my degree, as well as
finding an internship to gain some type of music experience within the industry.
6. BUILDYOUR SKILLS
There are many things you can proactively start doing to build your
skillset while attending Full Sail.A few of these things include:
> Obtain an internship at a record label to start getting hands on
knowledge about the music industry.
> Become an assistant to an artist manager, and from there learn
the ropes of artist management and make connections.
> Go to seminars where there are featured speakers that are in
the music industry.
7. PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS
There are a few associations I would want to join to aid in my
career path.These include the Women’s Music Business Association
(WMBA), Internet Marketing Association (IMA), and the
Entrepreneurs’ Organization. I would like to join these associations,
because each one will add to my skillset while also helping me
reach maximum potential that I will need in order to thrive in my
career of choice.
8. FULL SAIL CLASSES
• Artist Management- This class will help me learn how to
launch, develop, and sustain an artist’s career while also managing
contracts.
• Music Business Marketing- This class will help me learn
the ways of marketing as it relates to the music industry which
will further help me as an artist manager.
• Music Evaluation for Artists and Repertoire- This
class will help me develop listening skills through evaluating
music as a basis for talent scouting.
