What is the accessibility campaign
• Increasing landlords’ openness towards
adaptations
• Increasing landlords’ awareness about funding
e.g. Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs)
• Increasing local authorities’ promotion of the
grants to private landlords
3. www.landlords.org.uk 3
NLA motivations
• Ageing demographic and the role that landlords
can play to address the shortage of supply
• Only seven percent of DFG awards go to private
tenants
• Opportunity to make a case for a new sub-
market with strong demand

Southampton and Bournemouth
• Surveyed 829 landlords in our Q1 quarterly survey
• Hosted a roundtable to explore our research findings

Campaign outcome
• Good practice guidance on adaptations for
landlords
• Small scale pilots with local authorities and large
portfolio landlords
• The pilots would be valuable case studies of a
landlord’s adaptation journey

Editor's Notes
The accessibility campaign is about increasing the number of landlords open to considering adaptation requests and this is linked to the points above which are:
Funding – landlords need to be made more aware about the DFG and how some grants are also funded under social care
Local authority involvement- landlords need local authorities to have clear signposting about adaptations within the PRS
Share the tenant results before proceeding to the next slide
Explain that the box out (No. of properties (let to those with accessibility needs) provides a breakdown of how the eight percent of landlords are providing adaptations. In this case, the proportion of landlords providing adaptations increases as their portfolio size rises.
