2. Evidence of idea generation: Topics
When thinking about possible ideas for this project I came up with, Mental Health With Music and Trophy Hunting. I
looked at all of the possible ways that I could make these ideas in to an actual piece. In the end I decided to go with
the idea of exploring mental health within music, I decided I wanted to create a podcast exploring this, I also have
decided to create/conduct a number of interviews. I also contacted the mental health charity Mind and asked them
if they would be willing to help me get some more information on my chosen idea. I have chosen this topic because
it really means something to me, as I know people that are going through mental health problems, and I feel as if
we need to bring more awareness to mental health as a whole.
3. Evidence of idea generation: Style
In regards to the style that I want my podcast be to, I want it to come across as formal because, the topic I have
chosen is quite sensitive and raw. I will also want the music to be fitting to my topic. The songs that I will be
incorporating in to my podcast will be, Bring Me The Horizon- Avalanche. I have chosen this song because I think it
fits in very well with the style that I want to create for my podcast, also the lyrics in this song, highlight the topic that
I’m talking about. I will also make sure that the langue that I use throughout my podcast is clear and
understandable. Another song that I will be using within my podcast, will be Movements- Nineteen. I have chosen
this song because, it highlights the sitgma attached with men and showing there emotions.
6. Structure:
A plan for your video. What is the purpose of the video, what is you intended direction, what are you trying to say?
I have decided to create a podcast, exploring mental health within music. I want to create this because I believe
that it’s an issue within our society that needs to be address and have more awareness brought to it. I have seen
that mental health is being spoke about more and more within the music industry, not just in the Rock, Pop-Punk
and Metal genre but others as well. I think there’s a massive stigma around having a mental health problem in this
society, if you speak about your problems you instantly get called an “attention seeker” and I think that puts a lot of
people off when it comes to telling someone how feel. Also I feel that males in society are somewhat scared to
express there feelings because there’s an image that society has created where a man has to be “man” and
therefore can’t talk about feeling sad or having a cry because men aren’t meant to show emotion, in regards to a
direction for my podcast, I want to aim it at all target groups, by doing this it will allow me to spread the message
that “It’s okay, not to be okay” further.
7. Content research:
What materials and info do you need for your production? The core of a good factual project is doing the
background work in terms of researching the topic and getting the right contributors. Use this and additional slides
to collect this. Reference your sources.
For my product to be a success I need to do plenty of research on the topic I have chosen, I also need to look at
existing interviews, this would help me a lot for when I come to do mine own, and by doing this, it will allow me to
look at the certain langue and skills that the presenter uses. I have looked at a number of different mental health
charities, including Mind, Young Minds and the project Heads Together. When conducting my research for
information, I used Youtube, BBC and charity websites. In regards to materials, for my project, I will need a
handheld voice recorder I will use this to record my interview. I will also need to use Adobe Audition when it comes
to editing my audio, and I will also use Youtube to source music that I intend to use throughout my podcast.
