Student evaluation of teaching spring 2017 - individual report-set for phys-1202 q-035l-storr-general physics (kiarash ahi)
1. Section 6. Comments
What was the most positive aspect of the way in which this instructor taught this
course?
Comment
He was very knowledgeable about the subject. Whenever we needed help, he was willing and knew what the answer
was.
He was always trying his best to answer questions and guide us in the right direction
He was always very interested in the topic and easy to talk to. He would answer any question you asked and also just
liked to talk about physics with you if you wanted. Kiarash was one of the best TAs I've had here at UConn
He was very accessible and made the necessary modifications to the lab to make the lab more doable in the allotted
time. Also, he filled in the gaps in information of the lab manual.
Kiarash was the best TA I have had for a lab course here at UConn. He was personable, understanding, and helpful.
He is one of the few who really seems to care about each student and how well they understand what they are doing.
Helped students get through experiments where instructions were lacking
Kiarash was patient and easy-going, which made the terribly designed curriculum of the lab course much more
manageable.
Kiarash was very helpful when students had questions. He was always nice and understanding.
He was very helpful and kind to students
What can this instructor do to improve teaching effectiveness in the classroom?
Comment
Some initial directions were difficult to understand.
Nothing
demonstrating the experiment
Instructions in the beginning of each class sometimes felt unclear, organizing the notes on the board better might have
helped.

I wish the labs aligned with the lecture. Some stuff in the lab was done after the fact. If we had learned about it in
lecture, it would have been easier to understand.
Lab Manual was kind of confusing at times. Kiarash would explain it much better.
The lab manual for this course is the most horrible manual I have ever used! Every week we are guessing at the
procedure and what we have to do. The manual has unrealistic expectations as to what we, as intro level physics
students, can figure out on our own. There needs to be a new manual that clearly outlines the procedure and how to
analyze the data for each week. I don't understand why, if UConn makes its own physics lab manual, this is so hard to
replace. The poor manual results in students spending more time and effort in lab each week for minimal learning and
pay-off.
The labs are excessive to me, especially for a 1202 class of all non-physics majors.
