1. Evidence for Standard 1: Know students and how they learn
Year 7 experiment on forces and friction revision (kahoot)
Script for Lesson Intro:
Good morning year 7,
Today we are going to do an experiment using spring balances and blocks to measure the different newtons
when being dragged across a range of surfaces.
so we have been looking at forces and friction the last few lessons, can someone tell me what friction is? Yeah
and can someone give me a real life example of friction? E.g. car tyres when stopping suddenly
And then Last lesson we looked at variables, can someone tell me a type of variable? And what is the key word
associated with that variable? What about the other variable?
What I would like for you to do now is fill out on your sheet, the independent and dependent variable. Then we
will discuss this as a class before perform the experiment
Conclusion:
Before you leave, can somebody tell me what we were looking at when we were using the spring balances and blocks? And what did the whole class find? Did
you expect to get the results you did? Don’t forget you have an exam tomorrow.
Materials for Achieving Outcomes
Equipment:

Having a conclusion to the
lesson allows for all the
main concepts to be
rementioned, it allows
students to develop their
deep knowledge and
understanding by
reinforcing the concepts
and it allows students to
clarify any misconceptions
Overall, this lesson went well. All students were engaged with the task
and excited to be performing a mini experiment. However, I need to
improve on time management to ensure I sum up the lesson more
effectively and have that crucial end of lesson discussion to assess student
knowledge.
2. Date: Thursday week 3 27/10/2016 Pd: 2 Class: 7A Room: D2
Contributes to Syllabus/Unit Outcomes:
SC4-10PW describes the action of unbalanced forces in everyday situations
SC4-11PW discusses how scientific understanding and technological developments have contributed to finding
solutions to problems involving energy transfers and transformations
PW1 change to an objects motion is caused by unbalanced forces acting on the object
PW2 The action of forces that act at a distance may be observed and related to everyday situations
Teacher Lesson Objectives:
Students will gain knowledge and application of force and friction; they will record the variables used within
the experiment and develop class data. Students will engage in a revision activity by playing a kahoot based
on cells
Student Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this lesson students will be able to:
Identify the variables used within the experiment
Record results and create class data
Participate in a kahoot and assess their own knowledge

Steps in Development
Introduction to Lesson (script above)
Go through independent and dependent
variable with students on the sheet, ask
students to answer the question to the
whole class
Initate experiment by asking students to
collect materials and start
Put results on board for class results
Allow students to write a conclusion for
the experiment and discuss there results
in class
Introduce kahoot (revision for yearly)-
early in the year you looked at cells, can
anyone remember what you looked at
back than?
10 minutes
5 minutes
20 minutes
15 minutes
Listen to what is happening in the
lesson, get out books and pens
Write answer for independent and
dependent variable for experiment and
then discuss answers in class
Collect materials required and start
experiment, record answers on sheet
Write group results on the board
Answer conclusion and discuss results
with the class
Answer questions in class discussion
Having a script ensures I
introduce everything
happening in the lesson and
allows the students to
understand the shift from
another KLA to science. It
allows links to be made
from previous lessons and
real-world situations. It also
allows the students to
understand the behavioural
expectations for that lesson
as group work has different
expectations than individual
work.
Class discussions allow
inclusion of all students.
Within this class a lot of
the students like to give
answers therefore having
multiple opportunities for
these students to discuss
aspects of the lesson
allows the students to
demonstrate their
understanding of the
concepts, metalanguage
and provide opportunities
for substantive
communication.
Group work is an inclusive
activity as it provides the
opportunity for students in
small groups to investigate
their knowledge and test
aspects whilst allowing for
high levels of engagement-
for this lesson it was
determining the different
forces that impact on
object.
Students had only had one
lesson on variables previous to
this class, I incorporated a
section for students to think
about the variable in the
experiment they were about to
perform. This was to assist in
developing a deeper
understanding between the
differences, and increase their
understanding of the
metalanguage
Going through the
answers in class allows
students who get the
wrong answer to gain
clarification before
working on the
concept further
3. Initiate kahoot Participate in kahoot

Self evaluation of lesson:
Teacher Objectives:
The experiment was completed and their was good value of class discussion, however, ran out of time and
wasunable to play Kahootrevision for their upcomingexam. Conclusion wascut short and I only reminded
the students about the exam.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Students had excellent class discussions, the experiment was performed with all students contributing to the
results and then providing an overall class data sheet.
Management:
Class were well behaved, excited over being able to move around the room. Came back to desks and put
equipment away when asked.
