Sample Student Evaluations
“Layla is very friendly and approachable to the students while having a great
grasp on the material that she is required to teach every week. Layla also went
through troubles to find extra supplemental materials that explains the material
in a different point of view to help students understand the concepts.”
-Student, Fall Quarter
“Layla has such a passion for physics and it really shows in the excitement
she exudes when helping others grasp difficult and abstract ideas. She is the
best TA I have had at UCSC. Not only did she understand the lab information
but she always found outside examples that made everything seem relevant.
You could often overhear her having casual conversations with students engag-
ing them into thinking about the big picture and how these concepts are used
outside our classroom. Many times I would see her get just as excited as the
student who had an Ah Ha moment which to me shows her genuine enthusiasm
for helping others learn physics. All of this on a late Friday afternoon lab when
many others would let the leisure or work of the weekend distract them. In
fact on the very last day of lab (last Friday) with only an hour left a student
from a different lab section walked in to START the experiments. With only a
handful of students finishing up their analysis it would have been easy for Layla
to express frustration but instead she told this student it wasn’t a problem and
to get as much done as possible in the time left. Her professionalism in this
situation speaks volumes for her character. For the sake of future students I
hope you continue to utilize her as a physics TA in the quarters to come.”
-Student, Winter Quarter
“Layla is amazing. Hands down the best lab TA I have ever had (in any subject
lab). She is kind, knowledgeable, and super helpful. She was always willing
to answer questions and did a great job giving explanations. She often asked
leading questions to help us figure out the answers on our own, which was great.
Her expectations and grading were very fair. I am so glad I got to have her as
my TA.”
-Student, Spring Quarter
