lost control of the cape to the British?
The dutch set up a permanent settlement at the cape to
exclude the British.
In 1705 the British were at war with France and the British
invaded the Cape Pennisula and took over the Cape from
the Dutch until 1803 when the colony was handed back to
the Dutch.
When war between the British broke out again in 1806,
the British permanently occupied the Cape colony.

Intially the British control was to protect the trade route to the EAST.
But they soon realised the potential to develop the Cape fro their own needs.
Missionaries wrote articles which talked about cruel slavery was.
In 1807 the British abolished slave trade in it’s empire, but did not abolish
slavery.
The British navy took the slaves from the portuguesse and released them into
the cape as their own.
Missionaries continued to campaign against slavery
