Wastewater treatment (Sludge)

6.
7. • There are three methods of sludge
disposal:1. Incinerating
2. Dewatering
3. Solid composting
8.
9. Incerinating
• Incineration is a waste treatment
process that involves
the combustion of organic substances
contained in waste materials.
10.
11.
12. • Incineration and other hightemperature waste treatment systems
are described as "thermal treatment".
13. • Incineration of waste materials
converts the waste into ash, flue gas,
and heat.
14. • The ash is used as soil conditioner or as
construction material.
15.
16. Dewatering
• Dewatering is the removal of water
from solid material or soil by wet
classification, centrifugation, filtration,
or similar solid-liquid separation
processes, such as removal of residual
liquid from a filter cake by a filter
press as part of various industrial
processes.
17. • Construction dewatering, unwatering,
or water control are common terms
used to describe removal or draining
groundwater or surface water from a
riverbed, construction site, caisson,
or mine shaft, by pumping or
evaporation.
18. • This frequently involves the use of
submersible "dewatering"
pumps, centrifugal ("trash")
pumps, educators, or application of
vacuum to well points.
19. Compost
• Compost is organic matter that has
been decomposed and recycled as a
fertilizer and soil amendment. Compost
is a key ingredient in organic farming.
20. • At the simplest level, the process of
composting simply requires making a
heap of wetted organic matter
(leaves, sludge) and waiting for the
materials to break down into humus
after a period of weeks or months.
